• Oversees the implementation of Milwaukee Recreation’s school-based youth sports programs.  
• Provides guidance and supervision to full-time staff to ensure professional growth, and fulfillment of job duties and responsibilities.
• Assures that assigned areas of responsibility are performed within budget, prepares annual budget requests, and ensures effective and efficient use of budgeted funds. 
• Hires, evaluates and trains coaches, officials, sports coordinators, and support staff for elementary/middle school youth sports programs.
• Conducts regular site visits (evenings and weekends) to determine program effectiveness and to provide evaluation feedback and support to full-time staff.  
• Annually reviews and updates program policies and procedures handbook and ensures compliance across assigned programs.
• Coordinates planning and implementation of annual MPS Run Back to School.
• Assists with program marketing strategies and provides oversight to ensure accuracy of marketing materials.
• Assesses community needs, investigates program trends, analyzes program evaluations and recommends program adjustments accordingly.
• Orders needed equipment and supplies and monitors program inventory.
• Works closely with metro Milwaukee area schools to further develop their extracurricular athletic programs.
• Acts as an independent hearing officer for disciplinary actions involving athletic teams.
• Establishes partnerships with other MPS departments, schools, governmental units, agencies, and community-based organizations to develop quality youth sports programs throughout the city. 
• Assists with Recreation Department activities as needed.  Serves on various community or employee committees as required and assigned.
• Assists with Recreation Department activities as needed. 
• Actively supports the MPS Five Priorities for Success
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree required from an accredited college or university in recreation management, athletic administration, sports management, education, or related field.  Master’s Degree preferred. 

Experience Requirements:

• Minimum of three (3) years of full-time, or equivalent professional work experience supervising employees engaged in the planning and implementation of sports and athletics programs, managing athletic leagues/tournaments and management of sports facilities.  
• Experience delivering services in an urban environment preferred.
• Supervision of full and/or part time staff.

Certification Requirements:

• Certified Youth Sports Administrator (CYSA) and/or Certified Athletic Administrator preferred.
• Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) preferred.
• First Aid/AED or ability to obtain within one year of employment.

Possession of:

• Valid driver’s license authorizing operation of a motor vehicle in the State of Wisconsin.
• Properly insured personal vehicle for job-related travel.
