The UMass Lowell Campus Recreation Fitness and Facilities Intern will report to the Assistant Director of Fitness and Recreation Center Operations. Their main responsibilities are to oversee the Riverview Fitness Center staff, daily operations of the facility, and fitness and wellness programs. Responsibilities include:

Staffing Management 50%

• Manage the facility staff including day-to-day schedule changes and semester schedules
• Assist with recruiting, hiring, training, and routinely evaluating Riverview Fitness Center staff
• Provide support with budgeting and payroll for Riverview Fitness Center and fitness staff

Facilities 25%

• Oversee the daily operations and maintenance of the Riverview Fitness Center
• Manage the Riverview Fitness Center equipment, functionally, and cleanliness
• Assist managing the Recreation Center fitness center equipment’s functionally and cleanliness

Instructing 25%

• Oversee and take lead on one/two fitness learn-to programs per semester
• Support leading group fitness classes and/or personal training if needed
• Provide guidance and support to personal trainers and group fitness instructors with their programming
• Collect assessment on programming, including participation numbers and participant surveys

Salary/Compensation:

30 hours/week
Office hours & programming hours will include evenings
$16,000 + on campus housing

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (preferably in a health-related field, such as Exercise Science or Kinesiology)
• Group Fitness or Personal Training Certification from a nationally recognized organization (AFAA, ACE, ACSM, NETA, CSCS, etc)
