Purpose: All graduate assistant positions with Emporia State University are responsible for the overall execution of their specific program offerings. In addition to their program responsibilities graduate assistants will be active members of the Campus Recreation team; engaging in department committees, functions, and initiatives, program-specific training sessions, and large-scale division and department special events and initiatives. Graduate Assistants will hold regular scheduled office hours, and evening and weekend work is expected. Contracts for graduate assistant positions are renewable on a yearly basis, and are dependent upon favorable academic standing as well as acceptable performance evaluations specific to the role each plays in Recreation Services.
Compensation Information: Tuition waivers are granted to cover nine credits of course work during the fall and spring semesters, a $9,000 stipend from August to May and an option for summer employment. Graduate students have access to health insurance through the University. Graduate student is responsible for paying his/her own fees. Professional development assistance is available. We offer stipends for travel, which must include presentations at state, regional, and national conferences.

Job Summary:
Graduate Assistant Intramurals:
Graduate will oversee undergraduate student supervisors and sport officials. Position requires approximately 20 hours per week and a willingness to work evenings and weekends.
Representative Duties: Assist with Intramural Sports program development - Daily Intramural Sports activities administration - Special event coordination and administration – Recruiting, hiring, training and development of supervisors/officials - Develop and implement departmental assessment practices - Provide reviews of assessment tools and data - Daily reports review and follow-up - Other duties as assigned.
Requirements: Must have a strong officiating background in flag football, volleyball, basketball, soccer and/or softball. The candidate must have two years of experience officiating and/or supervising Intramural Sports activities.
Experience: Intramural Sports, programming experience, event planning, officiating experience, recreation experience.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Other Characteristics: Individual should have excellent skills in training/evaluating/assessment of officiating skills and mechanics; knowledge of basic sport rules; must have exceptional oral and written communication skills; must have basic computer skills and willingness to work evenings, weekends and early mornings (when needed).

Recreation Services Facilities - Risk Management

Job Summary: The Graduate Assistant of Facility Operations assists in providing educational and recreational opportunities to the Emporia State University community. Duties include recruitment and supervision of student workers, providing student development opportunities and patron relations. This position will hold primary responsibilities in managing patron services and relations, managing equipment and reservations as well as administrative tasks such as payroll and budgeting.
Additional Department and Position Summary:
- Assist with ESU Recreation Services facility development / management
- Recruit, hire, train and develop a student staff of 25+ employees
- Assist with recreational fitness equipment maintenance, servicing and record keeping
- Special event / reservation coordination and administration
- Facility staff scheduling of HPER Pool
- Develop and implement departmental assessment practices
- Provide reviews of assessment tools and data
- Other duties as assigned
