SUNY Cortland invites applications for Assistant Director for Outdoor Pursuits. SUNY Cortland's assistant director for Outdoor Pursuits works in the award-winning 150,000 sq. ft. Student Life Center (SLC), a vibrant and exciting atmosphere; and manages and supervises all aspects of SUNY Cortland's comprehensive Outdoor Pursuits Center/Program. Demonstrate passion for recreation, student staff development, and programming.

Required (minimum)  qualifications include: a bachelor's Degree in Physical Education, Recreation, Sport Management or related field, experience in experiential/outdoor education or other relevant field, experience in recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, supervising, and evaluating student employees; knowledge of industry standards to plan and lead courses/programs with best practices in specific technical areas and experience planning/managing/directing a variety of outdoor recreation activities such as skiing, rock climbing, cycling, canoeing, hiking, backpacking, camping and kayaking; a valid U.S. driver’s license, with the ability to drive 12-passenger vans. Willingness and ability to obtain CPR/First Aid/AED certification AND Wilderness First Responder within the first six months of employment.

Preferred qualifications: master's degree in Physical Education, Recreation, Sport Management or related field; prior work experience in a campus Recreational Sports program; outdoor recreation equipment management experience; critical knowledge of outdoor adventure ethics and best practices; current CPR/First Aid/AED certification AND Wilderness First Responder; CPR/First Aid/AED instructor; experience in bike maintenance; experience with managing rock climbing; experience with leading wilderness medicine, rock climbing, backpacking, paddling, and other outdoor activities; experience with team building activities for large and small groups; evidence of ability to work independently.
