Salary Details:
- $$40,712-$52,312 annually based on qualifications and experience. Hours flexible; department’s office business hours, Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm. Frequent evenings and weekends depending upon activities and assignments. Attends meetings and conferences concerning students and with student groups at times beyond usual working hours. Twelve month, full-time position. Excellent benefit package. Texas has no state income tax.

Responsibilities:
- Supervision - Recruits, hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates part time student staff (social media & event staff) and the marketing and communications graduate assistant. In partnership with the team, assists in approving and assigning work within the project management system.
- Social Media - Manages all social media channels for department ensuring brand compliance and adherence to best practices and protocols. Platforms include but not limited to: Facebook, Twitter, TikTok and Instagram.
- Virtual Communications - Writes, schedules, and sends various virtual communications about departmental programs and activities to students, faculty/staff, and the division ensuring content is compliant with brand guidelines and best practices. Communications include, but not limited to: Division of Student Affairs monthly updates, Rec Sports App notifications to members, email messages to members through point-of-sale system (Fusion), university listserv, or MailChimp to targeted membership audiences, and semester updates for university undergraduate and graduate catalogs.
- Outreach Coordination - Oversees student team and coordinates scheduling of various on and off campus events to promote the Department of Recreational Sports to future and current students. Identifies appropriate outreach opportunities that support graduate student recruitment and establish advantageous partnerships that may provide internship opportunities. Events include but are not limited to spring Howdy Week, new student conferences, Fish Camp, and T-Camp. The position is required to drive a university vehicle to carry passengers and/or attend on and off campus events.
- SWAG and Promotional Item Management - Oversees the purchase of promotional items within budget parameters. Maintains of inventory of items which includes ensuring safeguards from loss and completion of annual inventory counts.
- Department Mission Duties - Serves on national, university, divisional, and departmental committees as needed. Assists in establishing long and short-term goals of the department. Attends local, state, and national workshops and conferences; hosts and presents at various workshops. Maintains positive relationships within department, other university departments, community and vendors. Assists other university staff members as requested. Interacts with students, faculty, and staff for the benefit of carrying out the mission of the department. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Three years of communications and/or marketing experience
Required Licenses and Certifications:
- Class C driver's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong attention to detail. Excellent presentation, writing, and editing skills with ability to proofread and edit for grammar and style
- Ability to think creatively about communicating an organization’s message and brand. Proficiency using the Internet, smart phones, and various smart-phone apps and in Microsoft Office applications
- Outstanding interpersonal skills, including the ability to respond to external constituents with tact, diplomacy, and discretion; represent the department professionally in a variety of public settings
- Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others and must have a high level of creativity, excellent project and event management skills, and an in-depth understanding of the digital and social media marketing and communications landscape
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Master’s degree
- Experience in social media marketing, event planning, and supervision
- One year of relevant experience in communications, marketing, social media, writing, or events with Master's degree
- Experience with website maintenance (Wordpress, HTML), Adobe Suite, or other comparable tools
