Position Summary

UNK Campus Recreation is looking for a motivated self-starter, who exhibits great attention to detail and values working in a fast paced, team environment. Under the supervision and direction of the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation, the Sport Programs Coordinator will serve on a team responsible for the daily operation and management of Intramural and Sport Clubs at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. Campus Recreation is a department within the Division of Student Affairs that provides recreation and wellness programming to the campus community.

The Sport Programs Coordinator is responsible for the overall planning, coordinating and assessment of a comprehensive Intramural Sports Program. Responsibilities include planning, assessing, and managing the day-to-day operations of all Intramural activities, provide personnel management and training of approximately 40 student staff, and serve as an advisor for select sport clubs within the Sport Club Program. The Coordinator also handles various administrative tasks within Campus Recreation. Some evening and weekend supervisory and training hours will be required.

The Coordinator works collaboratively with department colleagues to facilitate event operations and logistics within the Campus Recreation Department, Division of Student Affairs, and throughout the University to benefit students. In addition, the coordinator is committed to promoting a positive, friendly work environment that encourages, enhances and demonstrates collaboration, teamwork and professionalism among staff, students and patrons on a daily basis. Some evening and weekend supervisory and training hours will be required.

Job Duties

• Provide coordination and oversight of intramural leagues and events including activity implementation and participant conduct.
• Address participants regarding policies, rules of various sports, and behavioral expectations, enforcing rules and policies and responding to participant conduct issues as needed.
• Coordinate schedule of intramural and club sports via IMLeagues and develop communication for timely updates to participants.
• Submit facility requests to designated scheduler within established timelines, policies, and procedures.
• Recruit, hire, onboard, train, supervise, mentor, and facilitate professional development for approximately 40 student employees.
• Determine employee schedules, monitoring for accuracy and adequate supervision; adjust scheduling process based on area needs and budget; and oversee bi-weekly payroll approval.
• Proactively identify safety/risk management concerns at indoor/outdoor facilities, as well as within the sport programs at large and inform the Assistant Director of issues and resolutions.
• Collaborate with Assistant Director to provide inclusive programs and services to underrepresented populations.
• Assist administrative and logistical operations of a newly rejuvenated club sports program.
• Work directly with club sport student group leadership in planning and coordination of all operations, i.e. budget, purchasing, equipment, travel, competition, and future planning.
• Assist with department goals and collaborating on department-wide events/initiatives.
• Assist in strategic planning and assessment including establishing learning outcomes for student participants and employees within the program area.
• Responsible for creating, implementing and assessing Student Affairs curriculum
• Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in recreation administration, sport management or related field
• 1-2 years of work experience in a recreation or sport based environment
• Demonstrated knowledge of sports rules and officiating mechanics
• Ideal candidate will possess strong leadership, customer service, team building, and decision-making skills
• Possess a current CPR, AED, and First Aid certification or ability to obtain

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Master’s degree in recreation administration, sport management or related field
• 1-2 years of work experience in an intramural and/or club sport program(s) in higher education
• Two-year graduate assistantship in intramural and/or club sports
• Experience and a strong background in sports officiating
• Experience with intramural sports scheduling software (e.g. IMLeagues)
• Direct personnel management experience of student staff, including experience recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating
