Missouri Western State University, located in St. Joseph, Missouri, 45 minutes north of Kansas City, has an opportunity for a Graduate Assistant -esports starting 8-1-2022.  Missouri Western is an NCAA Division II institution, which successfully competes in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) in 16 sports.

The Graduate Assistant (GA) will provide support and operational assistance to the Head Esports Coach. The Graduate Assistant’s (GA) responsibilities will include all facets of the Esports Program. The Esports Program comprises club teams, recreational activities, and varsity teams. The program is committed to providing students with a variety of events and activities. The goal of the program is to provide competitive, comprehensive and recreational Esports opportunities in a learning, fun and safe environment.  The GA receives graduate school tuition covering a maximum of 9 credit hours per semester as well as a monthly stipend.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Assist the Director/Head Coach of Esports with hiring, supervising, and evaluating Esports student team members.
• Assist with planning and evaluation of the program’s publicity and social media websites.
• Assist with preparation and facilitation of participant communication and meetings.
• Assist with varsity Esports teams.
• Collaborate with other University team members and assist with University events as needed.
• Maintain Esports participant statistics and program analyses with the assistance of the Director/Head Coach of Esports.
• Mentor and coach students of assigned Esports student organizations.
• On-site supervision at various times during the week and occasional weekends.
• Oversee day-to-day competitive Esports operations with the assistance of the Director/Head Coach of Esports.
• Structure and implement Esports leagues, tournaments and events with the assistance of the Director/Head Coach of Esports.
• Attendance and operation management of Esports events (on and off campus), as assigned
• Other duties may be assigned as deemed necessary by the department.

• Experience in esports’ programming and employee supervision recommended.
• Experience in managing a team or Discord community is preferred.
• Experience supervising or participating in esports or other gaming activities is preferred. Knowledge of esports leagues and organizations structures.
• Requires someone who is willing to work in a team environment and provide and uphold our quality service standards and values.
• Strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills are expected.
• Strong IT knowledge including computer hardware, software and gaming technology preferred.
• Good communication skills as it relates to students, employees, administration and the general public
