Southern Miss Campus Recreation, under the Division of Student Affairs, is looking for qualified applicants for our Fitness and Wellness Coordinator position. Working under direction of the Associate Director of Programs, the Fitness and Wellness Coordinator directs the fitness program for the university community, directs wellness programming for employees and students, and has direct supervision over group exercise, personal training, and F45 programming.

Primary responsibilities include:

1. Establishes, administers, and manages annual program budget for the wellness and fitness programs.
   
2. Hires, trains, supervises, evaluates, promotes, and terminates employees under supervision for the personal training, F45 and Group Exercise Program.
   
3. Oversees the operation of the Personal Training Office including data management for all clients. 
   
4. Oversees programs, services, and events such as weight management, and incentive and educational programs, for students, faculty and staff, seniors, and special populations. Tracks participation levels and feedback for all special services activities.
   
5. Researches funding resources for grant proposals and writes proposals to purchase equipment and fund programs.
   
6. Serves as professional staff (rotating night and weekend) on duty for overall management and supervision of all staff, programs, and facilities to include opening and closing facilities and handling customer-related situations and emergencies.
   
7. Performs other duties as assigned.

• Ability to hire, evaluate, and train group exercise instructors.
  
• Ability to budget and manage a multifaceted program.
  
• Ability to hire and train personal Trainers
  
• Skilled to teach group exercise.

• Student Workers (30-40)
  • (Student workers will fill the role of Personal Trainer, Group Exercise Instructor, Student Managers, Wellness on Wheels ambassadors)

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Exercise Sciences or a related field. Two years of experience managing fitness programs, specifically Personal Training and Group Exercise or equivalent combination of education and experience. A valid Driver’s License is required. American Red Cross First Aid training and CPR for the Professional Rescuer or equivalent is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Exercise Sciences or related field; Experience supervising at least one graduate assistant or coordinator in a collegiate recreation setting, and certifications in American Red Cross CPR/AED/FA Instructor, ACE Personal Trainer, AFAA Group Exercise Instructor
