Being a part of Wellness@ASU as the Program Coordinator for Well-being through Sports Engagement means uniquely engaging in our mission of building an ASU student community that embraces physical, mental, spiritual, and social well-being of self and others as a hallmark of the Sun Devil Experience. We do this through the Sun Devil Way: exemplifying; achievement, engagement, and responsibility.
As an integral part of Wellness@ASU, the experience team is leading the way in providing personalized frameworks for students to establish and maintain positive health habits at ASU and beyond. We do this by assessing student health and wellness needs, providing a variety of programs and building environments that promote healthy living, decision-making and student engagement for students to ultimately be better equipped to succeed in their academics, career and in their personal lives. This person will also be responsible for taking a leadership role in cultivating, creating and ensuring student participation in ASU Spirit, Pride and Tradition while instilling institutional affiliation and college pride.
Program Coordinator for Well-being through Sports Engagement serves as a central member of the experience team and is primarily located at the Sun Devil Fitness Complex-Tempe. This position is responsible for developing student employees into student leaders, through ongoing training, assessment and development of student staff. Program Coordinator for Well-being through Sports Engagement works in a team setting to deliver world class programs and services across ASU’s four campuses in the Metro Phoenix area.
There are many opportunities within Educational Outreach and Student Services (EOSS); roles shift and evolve to support the needs of the institution. Therefore, it is important for this person to maintain a nimble approach to service. There are many growth opportunities, as well as the ability to be part of a service oriented, student-focused, mission-driven team, doing important work.
This is not a grant funded position and is not contingent on future grant funding.

Essential Duties
- Population-specific Programming: Coordinate and manage special events and programs that fit the specific wellness needs of assigned populations; Collaborates with key internal and external stakeholders to execute programs in a meaningful way and in immersion and virtual modalities; maintains effective relationships with campus partners in an ongoing manner.
- Sports Functional Expertise: Serve as member of the Sun Devil Fitness and Wellness Sports expertise team. This includes, managing the organization of intramural sport leagues and activities. Assist with the planning and coordination of the officials/ trainings as part of the Intramural program. Will play an integral role in supporting the development of all student staff across the department with intentional models to create growth and learning opportunities for student staff members.
- Create dynamic and consistent intramural sports and activities that promotes student community and meets the changing needs of the ASU student body.
- Summer Kids’ Camp Programming: Assist in the day-to-day operations of Sun Devil Kids’ Camp including camper registration process, management of staff, daily programming, field trips and facility oversight. Student Staff Development: Utilize principles of growth mindset when facilitating the engagement, development, hiring, training, scheduling and evaluation of a dynamic student staff that consists of student coordinators, student managers and student supervisors.
Administrative Job Duties
- Have a comprehensive understanding of holistic health and implement health and wellbeing programming into the Sun Devil Fitness and Wellness programs and services.
- Develop, implement and evaluate strategic plans with working goals that coincide with the strategic plans within EOSS.
- Develop collaborative, mentor relationships with all student coordinators to ensure they are performing to the level of para-professional staff.
- Cultivate an inclusive and diverse environment for student participants and staff.
- Responsible for taking a leadership role in cultivating, creating and ensuring student participation in ASU Spirit, Pride and Tradition.
- Process payroll for student employees on a bi-weekly basis.
- Address patron comments, concerns, behaviors and conduct issues as necessary and with outstanding customer service.
- Assist with creating, forecasting, monitoring and allocating the various budgets.
- Assist with purchasing and maintenance of program equipment and supplies.
- Enforce program and facility policies correctly and consistently and ensure a high level of risk management is present in the programs and services.
- Perform other duties as specified by the Assistant Director of Sports Programs, Associate Directors, and Executive Director of Sun Devil Fitness.
- Job location is primarily at the Tempe campus however, the incumbent will be required to periodically travel to other ASU campuses to perform work.
Days and Schedule: Monday – Friday 8:00am – 5:00pm; some weekend and evening required.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in field appropriate to area of assignment AND two years administrative/coordinator program experience; OR, Six years of progressively responsible administrative/coordinator program experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
