The Associated Students of CSU, Chico is recruiting for Director of the Wildcat Recreation Center. This is a full-time, full-year (2080 hours), exempt position. The pay range starts at $87,000/year; placement in range is dependent upon experience.

The Associated Students (AS) is a comprehensive campus auxiliary corporation of CSU,Chico serving thousands of students, faculty, staff and community members through myriad student programs, services and business enterprises. With an annual budget of more than $21M, the AS operates residential and retail dining services, the Bell Memorial Union, the Wildcat Recreation Center (WREC), and administers the contract for the Wildcat Store (bookstore). Additionally, the AS offers a wide variety of services and programs such as: CAVE (Community Action Volunteers in Education), Child Development Lab, Adventure Outings, Recycling, Sustainability and student government. Typically, the AS employs more than 100 full and part-time employees and more than 750 students.

WILDCAT RECREATION CENTER DIRECTOR
SUMMARY
This is a high-level management position with responsibility for the overall management and administration of the Wildcat Recreation Center (WREC), The Well, and Adventure Outings. Under administrative direction, the Director plans, manages and supervises operations, facilities, programs, services, and functions, including open recreation, aquatics, personal training, group exercise, member services, weight and fitness rooms, marketing, special events, outdoor recreation and trips, wellness programming, security, risk management, and related assignments as required.
ESSENTIALS FUNCTIONS
- Plans, organizes, directs, and manages all operations, services and programs for Wildcat Recreation Center, Adventure Outings, and The Well.
- Responsible for hiring, training, supervising, developing, and evaluating staff to successfully support operations, programs, and services.
- Provides leadership, advice, and assistance to students, staff, and faculty in all areas of operations.
- Responsible for achieving the educational, social, cultural, recreational, and service objectives of the Associated Students Facilities Committee (ASFC) in keeping with the mission statement. Serves as staff (non-voting member) to ASFC.
- Maintains regular communication with the Executive Director and other AS management staff by participating in Director meetings and planning sessions. Contributes to corporate wide policy development as needed.
- Develops, administers, and manages budgets of the WREC, Adventure Outings, and the Well.
- Coordinate all capital projects and equipment purchases for the WREC, AO, and Well with AS administration and the University.
- Analyzes monthly financial statements and presents results to appropriate staff. Initiates necessary administrative and fiscal control actions to meet budget projects.
- Oversight of daily sales and deposit reconciliation for WREC, AO and Well.
- Assists the Associate Executive Director with developing and implementing strategic plans for ASFC.
- Ensure all programs and services are aligned with AS and University strategic plans.Provides programs for on-going leadership training in association with the Human Resources office.
- Works with FMS and the Associate Director of Facilities & Operations to ensure the WREC and the Well provide clean, healthy, functional environments for students.
- Work with ASIT to maintain technology systems, including Fusion recreation software, credit card processing, security cameras, and electronic access.
- Periodically assesses the utilization of the WREC, Adventure Outings, and Well services and programs, developing recommendations for new and alternate programs and services.
- Coordinates with University personnel to ensure that opportunities are available for individual students to enhance their university life experience through co-curricular activities.
- Ensures that staff managers assist students with program development, group goal setting and budget development.
- Reviews and approves, or recommends approval, of WREC, Adventure Outings, and Well related contracts along with Risk Manager.
- Monitors risk management aspects of WREC, Adventure Outings, and Well programs and facilities in consultation with Risk Manager
- Develops and administers special projects.
- Oversee evaluation and assessment, including student recruitment and retention and participant satisfaction
- Represents the Associated Students, WREC, Adventure Outings, and Well in contacts with the campus, community, media, and other organizations and maintains positive working relationships.
- Maintains regular communication and works closely with the University Director of Recreational Sports.
- Other duties may be assigned by the Executive Director and Associate Executive Director.
POSITIONS DIRECTLY SUPERVISED
Assistant Director(s), Wellness Center Coordinator, Adventure Outings Coordinator, and Membership Services Coordinator.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
This is an independent and dynamic position requiring movement in and around a typical recreation facility. Work is performed in an office, outdoors, and in equipment/storage room environments; exposure to dust, heat, pool chemicals, electrical, and mechanical equipment; contact with staff, vendors, outside contractors, and the campus community.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor degree in a related field.
- Minimum five (5) years of full-time university recreation center (program or facility) or student union (program or facility management) experience.
- Minimum five (5) years of supervisory experience.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
- Advanced degree in recreation, sports management, physical education, or related field.
- Experience supervising outdoor recreation programs.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Possession of or ability to obtain a current and valid California Driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to obtain CPR/AED and First Aid certifications within 30 days of start date.
- Full vaccination status against COVID-19 or an approved medical or religious exemption per Associated Students policy.
- Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment.
