The University of Akron, Department of Student Recreation and Wellness Services is seeking a dynamic and energetic Manager, Fitness that will be responsible for developing, coordinating, implementing and evaluating the Fitness and Wellness Program within the SRWS Department. Working within the Division of Student Affairs in the beautiful Student Recreation & Wellness Center, the Manager, Fitness is responsible for the daily operations of all fitness and wellness programming and services. Manager, Fitness will create programming and services that meet the needs of the campus community, membership base, and outside user groups. Specific responsibilities include the following:

Program Management

• Provide leadership for the fitness and wellness program to include developing, promoting and delivering fitness and wellness programming such as group exercise classes, instructor workshops, fitness programs, campus wellness programs
• Coordinate revenue generating programs such as personal training and Pink Gloves Boxing
• Coordinate special event programming both internally and with campus partners in Student Life
• Develop a training plan for student staff and coordinate ongoing developmental programs to train new instructors
• Assist in scheduling of fitness and wellness spaces for departmental programming, campus programming and special event programming
• Recommend program policies and procedures related to all functional areas included in fitness and wellness programming
• Assess program offerings, to remain current with industry wide trends. Assess viability of online and in-person program offerings
• Assist in the marketing and promotion of all Fitness and Wellness programming
• Assist campus committees that focus on wellness initiatives for students, faculty and staff

Personnel Management

• Responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, supervising, evaluation and on-going training of: Group Exercise Instructors, Personal Trainers and Wellness Technicians
• Assist in recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, supervising, evaluation and on-going training of: Fitness Floor Attendants
• Lead the risk management development of policies relative to fitness and wellness programming and assist with development of SRWS Departmental risk management policies
• Create and deliver an inservice training plan to staff so staff are knowledgeable on departmental policy and procedure, program specifics and industry best practices
• Conduct ongoing staff evaluations and development
• Teach group exercise classes or personal training session in the absence of student staff

Budget Management

• Develop budget proposal, yearly, for all Fitness and Wellness program needs
• Assist in management of program budget to include; monitor payroll, recommend purchases and monitor revenue generating goals
• Provide communication, as necessary, in written or verbal format in the form of monthly/annual reports to provide insight on budgetary information, program information and participation statistics 

Other

• Participate on departmental and campus committees as assigned

Requirements:

Requires a relevant Bachelor's Degree; a minimum of two (2) years experience in fitness and wellness programming, CPR and First Aid certified or ability to obtain within first 3-months of employment; Nationally recognized certification in Personal Training and Group Exercise (ie; ACSM, NSCA, NETA, AFAA, ACE, ISSA) or ability to obtain within 6-months of hire; Experience in supervision and development of student staff; Computer skills to include Microsoft Office suite of products; Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, manage time efficiently, prioritize tasks, strong oral and written communication; ability to work a non-traditional work week; ability to demonstrate a commitment to diversity, social  justice, and cultural competence and ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
