The University of Akron is a state university located in an urban metropolitan area. Akron has 18,000 undergraduate, graduate and professional students. Student Recreation and Wellness Services has received many accolades including the NIRSA Outstanding Facility Award and Fitness Management NOVA 7 awards in facilities and technology. Built in 2004 the recreation center includes a 53' indoor rock climbing wall and 12’ free standing Bouldering wall, outdoor adventure trips and seminars, outdoor adventure equipment rental, 50 meter x 25 yard competition pool, a leisure pool and spa, five multi-purpose sport courts, 15,000 sq. ft. of strength and cardio equipment, two aerobics studios, jogging track, racquetball courts and more. Student Recreation and Wellness Services offers a comprehensive recreation program that includes Fitness and Wellness, Aquatics, Outdoor Adventure, Intramural Sports, Club Sports, and Informal Recreation.
