Summary of Position

The successfull candidate with assist in the administration and management of all operational and programmic aspects of a comprehensive fitness program with oversight from the Assistant Director, Fitness Programs. The coordinator's main functions include administrative and programmatic management for all fitness programs (i.e., group fitness program, personal training, special events).  Duties include, but are not limited to, assisting in the supervision, training, and mentoring of student and non-student group fitness instructors, personal trainers, and support staff (approximately 60 total staff), program management, budgetary oversight, and collaboration on special events with campus partners. 

Essential Responsibilities

• Assist in the planning, implementation, and management of day-to-day operations for a comprehensive, high quality year-round fitness program (includes group fitness, personal training,  instructional classes, trainings, and special events)
• Hire, train, schedule, and evaluate assigned student and non-student staff 
• Provide on-going training and support for staff through the design and implementation of high quality staff training programs and staff meetings
• Manage operations of fitness program areas, including upkeep of equipment and amenities
• Serve as the primary contact and respondent for member relations, concerns, and feedback regarding fitness programs and services
• Assist in the development, planning, monitoring, and forecasting of the fitness programs budget
• Support the assistant director in monitoring and managing program payroll and wage budget
• Assist in developing facility needs; Manage live group fitness schedule using program software
• Assist in developing and implementing assessment(s) for fitness programs
• Review program reports, participant evaluations, statistical data, and other relevant information to make strategic recommendations on scope, size, and nature of future fitness programming
• Collaborate with campus partners on supplemental fitness programming and involvement opportunities for UVM student, faculty, and staff

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in exercise science, recreation, physical education, health and wellness or related field
• Master's degree preferred
• CPR/First Aid/AED Certification
• ACE, AFFA and/or ACSM certification
• Minimum of one year professional experience in collegiate setting (every year served as a graduate assistant counts for .5 years of professional experience) 
• Experience teaching a variety of group exercise classes and/or knowledge of personal training programs and standards.
• Experience with a wide variety of software platforms
