Job Summary:

Educate and serve the University community through the coordination and oversight of aquatic and safety programs and facilities within the Department of Campus Recreation and Wellness; manage an indoor 45-foot by 125-foot, six lane stretch pool with diving well and three outdoor leisure pools that are approximately 15-foot by 40-foot; recruit, hire, train, schedule, and supervise student and part-time staff (instructors, trainers, lifeguards, and pool maintenance); develop, implement, and regularly assess policies and procedures, emergency action plan, training and certification requirements.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Oversee and direct the daily operations of indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities.
• Monitor all aspects of pool safety to ensure that national and state health codes and university policies are enforced.
• Maintain accurate record of chemical readings; collaborate with Facility Services to monitor pool chemistry and facility maintenance and inform campus partners when maintenance and repairs are needed.
• Coordinate and supervise aquatic facility cleaning.
• Hire, train, schedule, and supervise student lifeguards (40+) and aquatic instructors (15+) for both indoor and outdoor pools; maintain all required records related to staff certifications. 
• Maintain LGI certification through the American Red Cross.
• Coordinate and administer training to Department student staff and University participants in the areas of CPR, AED, First Aid, Lifeguarding, and professional development in-service training for all staff. 
• Develop and review emergency action plans, administrative policies and procedures, participant waivers and employee training; maintain records of accident/incident reports; collaborate with the University’s Office of Risk Management to ensure compliance.
• Develop and coordinate a comprehensive aquatic program for University participants, including adult and youth swim lessons. 
• Maintain accurate records of participation in aquatic programs and usage of aquatic facilities. Facilitate program assessment, participant feedback and evaluation of aquatic services. 
• Coordinate schedule of pool usage for Division 1 Athletic Varsity Swimming and Diving team for their practices and swim meets; coordinate usage of aquatic facilities for drop-in recreation, a variety of sport clubs and internal and external facility reservations.
• Monitor and assist with aquatics revenue and expense budgets; monitor and coordinate purchasing, inventory, and maintenance of the department’s first aid supplies, emergency response equipment and aquatic supplies. 
• Oversee the bouldering wall; coordinate setting routes, maintenance and special events in this area.
• Represents the department on a variety of University committees and task forces. 
• Participates in the development of learning outcomes, strategic planning, and other departmental initiatives. 
• Builds strong partnerships on campus.
• Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree (with master’s degree preferred), supplemented with 1-3 years of experience in collegiate recreation or a related area. American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid and Lifeguard Instructor certification.
