The Student Union, Inc. is 501(c)(3) nonprofit auxiliary that maintains three major facilities at San José State University in downtown San José, California. These facilities include the Diaz Compean Student Union Building, the Provident Credit Union Event Center, and the Spartan Recreation and Aquatic Center. The Student Union, Inc. functions as part of the Student Affairs Division on campus, and is governed by a Board of Directors made up of a student majority, faculty, and administrators.

Job Summary
The Intramural Sports and Inclusive Recreation Supervisor is responsible for the oversight in managing a comprehensive intramural sports program to include: leagues, tournaments, inclusive recreation and sports, in multiple campus locations. Provides the day-to-day supervision and administration for all aspects of Intramural Sports and Inclusive Recreation programming and personnel. The position will supervise all intramural staff, which include Officials and Supervisors. Will assist and support budget planning, monitor expenses, assess program learning outcomes, and work with the SUI marketing team to promote program offerings. The position reports to, and receives general supervision and direction from the Sr. Manager, Competitive Sports and Programs.
Essential Functions and Tasks
- Responsible for development, operations and oversight of the Intramural Sports Program, Inclusive Recreation activities and Camp Program.
- Develops recreation-based programs for diverse populations, including students of color, students with disabilities and other marginalized groups.
- Trains, supervises and evaluates the Intramural Sports Coordinator
- Hires, trains, and supervises student staff to include student supervisors, student officials and student assistants.
- Develops, maintains, and is fiscally responsible for the Intramural Sports, Inclusive Recreation Program budgets.
- Process payroll and related personnel matters for all staff in a timely manner.
- Run Intramural Sports staff meetings, staff trainings and league meetings to ensure all program participants are oriented to program rules, policies and procedures, and verify eligibility requirements for all participants.
- Utilize IMLeagues.com for managing team registration, scheduling leagues and play-offs, and communication with teams and players.
- Responsible for review and refinement of rules and coordination for all intramural activities, with an emphasis on fairness, safe play, enjoyment.
- Conduct review and disciplinary action processes with teams following the policies and procedures of the Student Union.
- Develops programming and marketing to promote all programming areas and works with SUI Marketing department to support the promotion of Spartan Recreation through direct messaging, membership drives, newsletters, and campus events.
- Works with SUI Student Success and Assessment team to ensures learning outcomes are developed and assessed annually for the student staff.
- Oversees the ongoing evaluation of all intramural sports programs, including completing participant evaluations, focus groups, informal discussion, and written program surveys.
- Establishes strong working relationships with other campus departments: Department of Kinesiology, Intercollegiate Athletics, Campus Life, Associated Students and other departments as appropriate.
- Assists the Senior Manager of Spartan Recreation Programs in the implementation of emergency procedures, safety practices and risk management procedures and ensure all activities are conducted in accordance to industry standards and safety procedures.
- Assist Spartan Recreation and Student Union, Inc. team members in supporting all special event programs and services.
- May work with NIRSA to facilitate participation in state, regional or national tournaments.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
- Demonstrated experience in administering comprehensive recreational sports leagues.
- Demonstrated supervisory or management experience including selecting, training, coordinating, evaluating, and supervising a diverse work force.
- Demonstrated experience officiating sports and training sports officials.
- Knowledge of personnel management, budgeting, and facilities management.
- Ability to direct management goals, facilitate change, and create innovative programs.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to coordinate, organize and prioritize projects with attention to detail.
- Ability to compile, prepare, write, and review reports.
- Knowledge of safety procedures and protocols as they relate to Intramurals.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of program policies and procedures and ability to manage situations which require resolution and problem solving. Experience in computer applications such as: Google Suite (Gmail, Docs, Slides, Sheets, Forms, etc.) Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- The position works in a wide variety of environments including both a typical office as well as an outdoors and indoor facility program-oriented environment.

- Lifting and Carrying, frequently 10-25lbs, occasionally 26-50lbs.
- In general, the position works a schedule based on business needs 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday - Friday, may work evenings and weekends as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Recreation, Sports Management, or a related field or equivalent combination of education and/or work experience.
- 2 years' experience in recreation, intramural, and/or college club sports programs.
- Current CPR/First Aid and AED certifications required or must be obtained within the first month of employment.
- Within the first month, all new employees are required to complete the following online training sessions through CSULearn, the University's employee training platform. Employees will be enrolled in the training soon after their appointment is processed and will be notified via email from CSULearn@sjsu.edu.

- CSU - Sexual Misconduct Prevention Program (Title IX) - required every year iv. Data Security and FERPA - required every two years

Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Recreation, Student Development, or related field
- Demonstrated experience in large student recreation centers, student unions, student activities, and residence life or student development.
- Experience in a large, non-profit corporation.
- Involvement in professional societies and organizations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Fusion Member Management system and IM Leagues registration software.
- Demonstrated ability to articulate the role campus life plays in recruitment, student success, retention, and graduation, and a commitment to college student development and student leadership.
