This position is under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director of University Recreation. Will be responsible for the management, direction, and evaluation of a comprehensive Outdoor Recreation (Govs Outdoors) program which includes an indoor climbing wall, trips Challenges Courses, clinics, trip leader development, outdoor equipment rentals, and wide range of specialized programs, activities, events, and projects that support University Recreation at Austin Peay State University. This Coordinator will work to cultivate a safe, equitable and inclusive community and environment working to identify and remove barriers for program staff and participants.

Austin Peay State University is a four-year public, doctoral-level university, with six colleges and four Chairs of Excellence. The University has an enrollment of over 10,000 students and is located in Clarksville, Tennessee, a community of an estimated 150,287 people located approximately 40 miles northwest of Nashville, TN.

• Oversee administration of innovative and inclusive Govs Outdoors activities that are intentionally designed for a variety of abilities and identities which includes the development, direction and evaluation of a comprehensive outdoor recreation program that meets the needs of a variety of skills levels, abilities and interested of the university community.
• Directly supervise the recruitment, development, training, supervision, and evaluation of student leaders and part time staff in the areas of outdoor recreation (Govs Outdoors) as well as its trip programs & rental programs, the challenge course(s) and University Recreation’s climbing wall.
• Work evening and weekend hours as needed for Govs Outdoor Programs as well as University Recreation and campus wide events as needed.
• Supervise the development, implementation, risk management and evaluation of the Govs Outdoors programs.
• Budgetary responsibility for Govs Outdoors recreation programs in concert with the University Recreation Leadership Team to include developing and maintaining equipment budget, inventory, maintenance procedures, and purchasing schedule for rental equipment, outdoor trip equipment, and climbing wall equipment as well as developing a yearly operating budget.
• Provides strategic leadership and planning for Govs Outdoors programs with University Recreation and University wide priorities in mind.
• Coordinate with University Recreation staff the use, and scheduling of all recreational facilities.
• Remain competent and current through professional development to include self-directed reading, research and networking with colleagues.
• Work collaboratively and effectively with university and community constituents.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

• Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

• Bachelor’s degree ; Master’s degree (preferred) in an appropriate area of specializations (e.g., sports management, outdoor education, parks and recreation, recreation administration, etc.).
• Two years of related experience working in a recreation/collegiate recreation/higher ed setting.
• A background check will be required of the successful applicant.

• Wilderness First Responder, Wilderness First Aid, American Canoe Association, American Mountain Guide Association, Association Challenge course Technologies, Leave No Trace, Swift Water Rescue or other Nationally accredited certifications.
• Experience with outdoor ropes courses.
