University Recreation at Western Michigan University is looking for a motivated, team oriented individual to fill our open position of Assistant Director of Intramural Sports and Recreation Programs. The primary responsibilities of this position are to oversee the daily operations of our intramural sports and climbing wall programs, assist with departmental initiatives, and empower Broncos to live a positive, healthy and active lifestyle.

Summary of Major Duties

• Plan, develop and assess day-to-day operations of intramural sports and climbing wall programs.
• Organize, schedule and oversee tournaments, special events and one-day programs.
• Hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate student employees.
• Manage payroll for student and part-time staff.
• Review and monitors risk management procedures, protocols and training to ensure the safety of participants and minimize the institutions exposure to legal liability.
• Develop policies and enforce conduct for intramural sports and climbing wall programs.
• Analyze and assess programming to make recommendations for an ever changing student population to stay with current trends.
• Makes purchase and budget recommendations regarding intramural sports, climbing wall and recreational programs.
• Updates website and contributes to departmental marketing and social media outreach.  

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or greater in related field from an accredited institution.
• One year's relevant experience or two years of experience as a graduate assistant in the administration of an intramural sports program.
• Previous supervisory experience.
• Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification(s) or must be obtained within 60 days of hire.
• Ability to work irregular shifts and extended hours, including weekend and holiday rotation.
• Ability to perform light work with some physical demands such as continuously lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds, but rarely moving more than 25 to 50 pounds. 

Desired Qualifications

• Master's degree or greater in related field from an accredited institution.
• Two years of professional experience or the combination of professional experience and graduate assistantship in the administration of an intramural sports program.
• First Aid/CPR/AED instructor certification.
• Officiating certification or experience officiating at high school level or higher.
• Experience supervising climbing wall or outdoor education programming.
