SUMMARY

The Assistant Director of Fitness and Wellbeing is responsible for the day-to-day administration and operation of comprehensive Group Fitness, Personal Training, Nutrition, and Wellbeing programs for students, faculty, and staff of A&M-Commerce, and members of Campus Recreation. This position reports to the Associate Director.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Oversee the Group Fitness, Personal Training, Nutrition, and Wellbeing programs to maintain a campus-wide investment in fitness and wellbeing
• Recruit (Handshake), hire, train, schedule (SubItUp), develop, supervise, process payroll for (Workday), and evaluate group fitness instructors, personal trainers, Registered Dietitian, and graduate assistant
• Plan, implement, facilitate, promote, and evaluate fitness and wellbeing special events, awareness weeks, fitness competitions, nutrition services, and educational workshops that meet the changing needs of various special populations, non-traditional students, residential students, faculty/staff, and community members
• Teach multiple group exercise formats and deliver personal training services as needed
• Assist in the development, enhancement, and implementation of long-term and short-term goals using statistical data
• Project and fiscally maintain three fitness and wellbeing budgets
• Oversee the inventory, selection, layout, replacement, and maintenance of all free weight, cardio, selectorized, fitness, and program equipment
• Utilize Fusion for group fitness and personal training registrations
• Establish and oversee risk management policies for the fitness and wellbeing program
• Assist with facility reservations related to fitness and wellbeing program
• Serve on the Campus Wellness Committee

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in a health-related, business, recreation, sports management/administration, or related field
• Experience/Knowledge/Skills: Six years of combined, related experience which can include full-time, part-time, and graduate assistantship in Fitness and Wellbeing programming
• Ability to: multitask, work independently, communicate and work cooperatively with others
• Licensing/Professional Certifications:
  1. Current Group Fitness Instructor and/or Personal Trainer Certification recognized by NCCA. (ACSM, ACE, AFAA, NASM, NCCPT, or meeting the same criteria) or ability to obtain the other within 90 days of employment. Must maintain current and future certification.
  2. Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment
• Physical Requirements: Move equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.

DESIRED EDUCATION/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

• Master’s Degree in Exercise Science, Physiology Recreation, Sports Management, Sports Administration, or related field
• Experience supervising and training fitness staff including group fitness instructors and/or personal trainers
• Knowledge and experience with wellbeing/wellness programming
• Advanced certifications (Yoga, Zumba, Spin/Cycle, Pilates, Boot Camp, TRX, CSCS, Special Populations, USAW, CES, CSPS).
• Bilingual fluency (Spanish and English written and oral)

SUPERVISION OF OTHERS

Registered Dietitian, Graduate Assistant, student workers (estimated between 15-25) including group fitness instructors, personal trainers, and student support staff

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Office environment/fitness center environment
• Non-smoking environment
• Low to moderate noise
• Local, regional, and national travel as applicable

 PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Sitting at a desk or table for at least 50% of the workday
• Stopping or moving for at least 50% of the workday
• Repetitive wrist, hand, or finger movement (while operating computer equipment)
