• Oversight and management of all fitness programming, including personal training, group fitness classes, the group fitness and personal training certification programs, outreach workshops, consultations, the instructional series, and other related services
• Provide leadership and direction for fitness and instructional programming staff while ensuring all programs are safe, friendly, and functional for students, faculty, staff, retirees, and spouses
• Act as the primary Notre Dame RecSports liaison to various wellness-based University groups
• Communicate programming schedules, maintenance needs, special event requests, etc. to necessary RecSports staff members, campus partners, and other University constituents
• Assist in budget development and financial planning for fitness related programs, services, and staff to justify purchase requests; monitor and adhere to budget allocations
• Coordinate room reservations and other required space needs with the Assistant Director for Facilities Management and Operations and other required University personnel
• Develop, review, revise, and implement programming schedules, policies, and procedures
• Serve on the RecSports Risk Management Committee
• Use semester and academic year data to create comprehensive participant and programming reports
• Inventory and manage all group fitness and personal training studio equipment, and fitness and instructional series equipment
• Develop strategic plans for short and long-term goals for fitness and instructional programs
  
  

Personnel Management

• Recruit, hire, train, supervise, mentor, develop, and evaluate, the Fitness and Instructional Programs Coordinator
• Assist with the management of approximately 30 fitness and instructional programs student and temporary on-call staff
• Supervise the training for all personal trainers, instructional series staff, and group fitness instructors, which includes customer service, emergency response, continuing education credits, effective communication, instructional confidence, inclusive practices, and overall competency
• Supervise the facilitation of regularly scheduled staff meetings and professional development trainings for fitness and instructional programs staff

• Some evening and/or weekend work may be required for this position
• Member of the RecSports Senior Leadership Team
• Other duties as assigned

Student Affairs Collaboration
Participate as integral member of a large, multifaceted Student Development team interacting daily with colleagues in the Student Activities Office, Multicultural Student Programs and Services, Office of Student Enrichment, Office of Community Standards, Gender Relations Center, University Bands, Family Resource Center and Student Media groups; Regularly collaborate with other departments within the Division of Student Affairs (Campus Ministry, Residential Life, etc.), student organizations & clubs, and other university units to enhance the RecSports’ work.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in exercise science, physical education, kinesiology, recreation administration, sports management, leisure studies or comparable degree
• Minimum of three years of work experience in the fitness/wellness field
• Programming management experience in a collegiate recreation setting
• Current certifications include nationally accredited CPR/AED/First Aid by the date of the application
• Current certifications include nationally accredited in one or more of the following by the date of application: Personal Training Certifications (ACE NASM, ACSM, CSCS etc.) Group Fitness Certifications (ACE, AFAA, ACSM etc.)
• Demonstrated strong leadership, customer service, team building, and decision-making skills
• Demonstrated ability to instruct group fitness classes if needed

Preferred Qualifications:

• Possess a current CPR, AED, and First Aid Instructor certification or ability to obtain one
• Current certifications include nationally accredited in one or more of the following by the date of application: Personal Training Certifications (ACE NASM, ACSM, CSCS etc.); Group Fitness Certifications (ACE, AFAA, ACSM etc.)
