COORDINATOR OF FITNESS OPERATIONS
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Fitness and Wellbeing, the Coordinator of Fitness Operations assists in the organization and administration of fitness and wellbeing programs, supervision of fitness assistant staff, and management of equipment & resources. Through ensuring the fitness floors are well maintained and operated, the Coordinator develops a welcoming environment that fosters a sense of community when utilizing the UREC.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THIS POSITION INCLUDE:
- Support the supervision of student staff who manage the fitness floors
- Train and supervise students who work as Fitness Assistants and/or Personal Trainers
- Provide direct support for members who participate in our Personal Training program
- Familiarity with the best practices as it relates to fitness and wellness that align with our mission
OPPORTUNITIES FOR LEADERSHIP:
Enhance the student and member experience. Nearly 30,000 distinct LSU students and members utilize the UREC at least one time throughout the year. This position has a leadership role in establishing consistent, high quality experiences for how members engage within our fitness programs and services. Through ensuring the fitness floors are well maintained and operated, the Coordinator develops a welcoming environment that fosters a sense of community when utilizing the UREC.
Optimize student staff trainings
Well-trained and high-quality student staff are the cornerstone of UREC fitness operations. The Coordinator will innovate in the development and delivery of trainings to best meet the needs of student staff, ensure their understanding of UREC policies and procedures. and deliver excellent customer service.

- Able to manage and lead a fitness program of comparable size, including the responsibility to train staff
- When addressed with concerns or questions related to fitness operations, will work to find creative solutions while considering current conditions and policies

RESPONSIBILITIES EXPLAINED:
Direct Student Support (40%)
Guide and direct student members as well as student staff on the proper usage of fitness equipment. Translate department efforts, initiatives, and goals to students through interactions at programs, services, events, and experiences. Serve as the liaison between (fitness staff) students and the leadership in the unit. Responsible for developing trainings that ensure Fitness student employees are knowledgeable about UREC policy and procedures related to ensuring a safe environment in all our fitness spaces.
Quality Control (25%)
Ensures every aspect of [programmatic/administrative/financial/facility/etc] outputs including administrative tasks, implementation, and overall design exudes a high degree of quality.
Embraces and executes a belief for continuous improvement and applies to elevate the level of all services, events, programs, and experiences in department.
Program Support (20%)
Responsible for operations of to be determined fitness programs, services, events, and/or experiences. Provides input on overall expenditures, experiences and services within Fitness and Wellness.
Administrative Support (10%)
Support the day-to-day fitness operations through administrative management while working with UREC business administration to ensure policies are being followed and updated when necessary.
Provides feedback regarding programs and experiences by personally using UREC. Contributes to the work environment by developing and maintaining positive relationships that support a culture of teamwork and cooperation.
Other Duties as Assigned (5%)
Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or Assistant Director of Fitness and Wellness. This includes but is not limited to efforts that support broad division/institution efforts including at least 40 hours per year spent helping divisional initiatives such as Move-In Day, Welcome Week, Family Weekend, Career Expo, Disability Services Finals Testing, other special projects etc.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Health Promotion/Education, Nutrition, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or related field
- 1 year of work experience in a fitness facility
- NCCA accredited personal training certification, examples but not limited to; AAPTE, ACSM, ACE, and or IFPA
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s Degree
- 2 years professional work experience in collegiate recreation, fitness facility, and or corporate fitne

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/EXPECTATIONS:
- Ability and willingness to work evening and weekend hours.
- Due to the position's physical requirements, a pre-employment physical examination will be required per FASOP: HR-04.

Should a student appear in need of or seek assistance with issues of an emotional, behavioral, or mental health related matter they should be referred to the proper service within the Student Health Center. In situations where the student creates an impression that they are a danger to themselves or others, the advisor should immediately contact the Care Team, the Dean of Students or the appropriate law enforcement agency. The employee outside of those rights contained within FERPA should create no impression of client or patient confidentiality
