Campus Recreation is looking for an experienced and dynamic person to join our team. Under the supervision and direction of the Associate Director of Campus Recreation, the Assistant Director for Competitive Sports will provide leadership and management of all aspects of Club Sports and Intramural Sports programming. Campus Recreation is a department within the division of Student Affairs that provides recreation and wellness programs to the campus community through the operation and administration of the following: IM Building, McCoy Natatorium, Stone Valley Outdoor Recreation Area, Tennis Center, White Building, Hepper Fitness Center, Outdoor Adventures, Aquatics, Club Sports, Fitness and Wellness Programs, and Intramural Sports. Campus Recreation is comprised of 53 full-time staff and more than 800 student staff members.

The Club Sports program promotes student development and participation in a wide variety of sport activities, provides opportunity for student competition at various levels of play, and fosters social connections and wellbeing. Campus Recreation currently has 52 club sports, with approximately 2,000 student participants annually.

The Intramural Sports program is comprised of more than 25 sports with approximately 8,000 unique participations per year. Activities are held in league, tournament, and individual formats. Participation offerings occur throughout the calendar year.

Specific responsibilities include:

• Supervise the day-to-day administrative responsibilities of a comprehensive Competitive Sports program, including 52 club sports and 25 intramural sports.
• Supervise, lead, and professionally develop three Coordinators of Competitive Sports.
• Forecast, prepare, and manage Club Sports and Intramural Sports budgets, including student fees and University allocations, totaling approximately $800,000.
• Assist Club Sport officers with individual budget preparations, to prepare for University allocation requests
• Regularly review, update, and track all Club Sport records and submitted documents from Club Sport officers.
• Regularly review, update, and track all Intramural Sport records; including sport rules, staffing certifications, team accountability documentation, etc.
• Train, guide, and mentor Club Sport officers on all contents of the Club Sports Officer Manual; policies, procedures, etc.
• Conduct regular individual Club Sport officer and program area meetings.
• Provide oversight of Intramural Sports staff, including supervisors, officials, program managers, and program assistants.
• Oversee the recruitment, hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating student staff.
• Manage payroll for part time staff in Club Sports and Intramural Sports.
• Ensure all programming is conducted in accordance with university, department, NIRSA, and sport-specific association risk management standards. Maintain all risk management records according to department and university policy.
• Prepare all facility reservation requests for area programs, and work collaboratively with Facilities staff to schedule program space. Meet regularly with Facilities staff to support the operations of the Campus Recreation facilities.
• Prepare all marketing and communication requests for the Competitive Sports program.

Qualifications

• A Master’s Degree is preferred in recreation or sport management, physical education, educational administration, or a related field.
• Applicants must have a minimum of 5 years of full-time experience managing club sport programming, recreation sport programs, or equivalency.
• Demonstrated experience in student and professional development.
• Knowledge of safety and risk management practices as they relate to club sports, intramural sports, and facility management.
• Experience with a variety of technology platforms, including, but not limited to IMLeagues, Fusion, ArbiterPay, etc.
