Florida State University is seeking two dynamic, innovative and student development-centered individuals for the position of Fitness Coordinator. This position will coordinate and supervise our group exercise program, including cardio, strength, mind & body, cycling, and specialty classes.
The successful candidate will provide shared leadership for a comprehensive university-wide recreational program designed for more than 50,000 students, faculty, and staff, and will assist with cultivating and delivering the departmental brand to the entire community. They will also cultivate an environment that values inclusiveness and diversity, engage in evidence-based decision-making, and promote student development and learning.

Serves as Coordinator of Fitness. Provides primary coordination, promotion, supervision, and evaluation for one of the following areas: group exercise classes (cardio, strength, mind & body, cycling) and specialty classes (barre, pilates, yoga) or personal training, Olympic lifting, and fitness assessment services. Assesses industry trends to compile a diverse array of programs and services to meet patron needs and University objectives.
Collaborates with additional Coordinator of Fitness to develop, promote, supervise, and evaluate introductory classes and educational sessions to orient new users to fitness facilities and offerings; small group training programs to engage groups of less than 10 participants in structured fitness activities; and specialized programs such as Olympic lifting and yoga to cater to advanced users and/or niche groups.
Provides support for those fitness programs and services not under primary supervision. Assists with the evaluation and recommendation of fitness equipment and supplies to meet program and facility needs.
Recruits, hires, trains, schedules, supervises, and evaluates 40-50 staff members to support supervised fitness program and service offerings. Provides leadership for student director positions. Sets learning outcomes and provides continuing education for staff to enhance skills and obtain or maintain appropriate certifications through workshops, instructional seminars, and conference attendance.
Acts as risk manager for fitness programs and facilities. Researches liability issues and implements updates to policies and procedures to maintain an appropriate standard of care and safety of fitness programs and related equipment. Develops and administers budget for assigned area. Regularly reports assessment and statistical data pertaining to operations, participation and staff development.
Provides consultations to referred students and other patrons to assist them with adopting appropriate fitness and wellness practices that support their overall wellbeing.
Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, or related field and 2 years of experience in recreation or fitness setting.
Current personal training or group exercise certification through NSCA, ACE, NASM or ACSM or group exercise certification through ACE, AFAA, NETA or other nationally recognized agency.
Experience supervising part time employees.
Master's Degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, or related field.
