Salary Details:
Annual stipend of $8,700 and a full tuition waiver for up to12 credit hours per semester. There is a potential to work up to an additional five hours per week, at $19.60 per hour, with supervisor approval.

These assistantships are a 2-year commitment as full-time graduate students working within Campus Recreation.

Campus Recreation, a department within the Division of Student Affairs, is dedicated to Towson University’s mission of creating a vibrant and healthy campus. Our dedicated team comprised of 18 professional staff members and 9 GAs support the success of TU students by providing state-of-the-art facilities and dynamic programs that promote physical and social benefits, as well as experiential education.
Graduate Assistant, Competitive Sports
The Graduate Assistant, Competitive Sports will provide administrative and operational support to the Competitive Sports professional staff. Over the course of the two-year assistantship, the GA will benefit from two unique and immersive experiences, spending one full academic year with sport clubs and another with intramural sports. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, planning and facilitating training sessions, student staff supervision, risk management, program development, advising club officers, scheduling, providing onsite supervision of night and weekend programming and serving as a member of the Campus Recreation professional staff including attending weekly departmental staff meetings. Responsibilities may vary based on the evolving needs of the department and the skills of the applicant. Evening and weekend hours are required. This position reports to the Assistant Director, Competitive Sports and the Coordinator, Intramural Sports.
Graduate Assistant, Facilities
The Graduate Assistant, Facilities will assist with administrative support and supervision of the operations of Campus Recreation facilities. The position works within all facets of facility operations including management of the Welcome Desk, Facility Managers, Event staff, informal recreation, scheduling, student personnel, risk management and facility maintenance. These duties include, but are not limited to, maintaining records and reports, supervision of staff, maintenance, and day to day operations of the facility. Maintain personnel files and assist with the recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling and development of the Welcome Desk staff and Facility Managers. Reports to the Assistant Director, Facilities Management. Evening and weekend hours required as needed.
Graduate Assistant, Marketing
The Graduate Assistant, Marketing will work directly with the Assistant Director, Marketing Strategy & Engagement to develop and enhance marketing and communication efforts for the Department of Campus Recreation. Working closely with the student employee marketing staff, the Graduate Assistant will assist in a variety of marketing initiatives including print, digital, in-person, social media, and video creation. Ability to work summers and winter breaks is desired, as marketing materials are prepped for the upcoming semester. Evening and weekend hours required as needed.
Graduate Assistant, Outdoor Adventures
The Graduate Assistant, Outdoor Adventures will assist with the operational and administrative support and supervision of the Outdoor Adventures program. Primary responsibilities include hiring, training, mentoring, and evaluating student, volunteer trip leaders. Based on experience and interest, the graduate assistant may obtain experience in the risk management and facility operations of the Outdoor Adventure Center, supervision of the Gear Rental program and managing the gear storage facility, and leading teambuilding programs. This position requires multiple field-instruction days per month leading activity-specific trainings, open-enrollment trips, and custom trips.
Graduate Assistant, Student Personnel
Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director – Employee Experience for Campus Recreation, the Graduate Assistant – Student Personnel will assist with student employee human resource activities including recruitment, hiring, on- and off-boarding, departmental training and development, and recognition and appreciation programs and events. The Graduate Assistant plays a pivotal role in providing consistency and quality of experience for over 200 part-time student employees in the department.
Education
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and successful admittance to a Towson University graduate program. Academic programs with a significant clinical/teaching requirement that would significantly limit assistantship availability may not be considered.
Experience
Previous experience working in Campus Recreation, specifically in a leadership role for the respective program area of application is preferred but not required.
Skills
Applicants must be highly organized with effective time management skills; must be able to work in a fast-paced environment; must possess strong written and oral communication skills. Applicants must have or be willing to obtain a current American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid certification.
