We are excited about the culture we are building at UC Davis Campus Recreation. We are looking for a coordinator of Aquatics to manage our new aquatic facility, expand our learn to swim program for college students and support the various clubs and sport programs that utilize our facilities.

Department Overview
Campus Recreation is a department within the Division of Student Affairs that provides fitness, wellness and recreation programs to the campus community through the operation and administration of the following: The Activities and Recreation Center (ARC), Live Well, Recreation Sports, Sports Clubs, Equestrian Center, Outdoor Adventures, Craft Center, Aquatics Program, Youth Programs and the UC Davis Marching Band.
Position Overview
Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Student Development, Aquatics and Youth Programs, coordinate the day-to-day activities of the UC Davis Recreation Pool. Hire student lifeguards and swim instructors, develop programming, coordinate scheduling, direct training, manage assigned budgets, and provide leadership in regards to facility upkeep and use. Assist with other projects within the department as needed.
Position Functions
PROGRAM MANAGEMENT Oversee assigned operation of aquatics to ensure a safe environment. Provide planning, leadership and oversight for the Aquatics program for the Department of Campus Recreation with consideration for costs, facility allocation/availability, content and scope. Aquatics programs include, but are not limited to, lap swimming, recreational swimming, child and adult swim lessons, group reservations, aquatics courses, collaboration across Campus Recreation and other programming for students, faculty, staff and the community. Advise and assist individuals and groups in the use of facilities. Continuously evaluate and implement necessary changes to safety equipment and the Aquatics facilities to ensure consistent risk management practices.
Work with Building Services unit to ensure all facilities are safe and clean for the University community and all visitors. Manage reservation and rental processes for on-campus and outside groups. Maintain inventory and make purchases based on annual user assessments and the capital equipment replacement plan.
Assist with other departmental projects or unit work as needed. Committee work and other duties as assigned.
PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate 10 Student Assistant IV's, and 45-50 Student Assistant III's. Plan and direct regular staff meetings
and training sessions for each assigned area including safety skills training and tests/evaluations for all staff. Develop and maintain updated, well-organized operational training manuals and materials. Keep certifications up to date and attend appropriate professional development to ensure compliance and enhance programs seeking innovative training techniques for staff.
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT Manage assigned program budgets and budgetary expenditures for supplies and services essential to the overall development of Aquatics programs. Manage income of daily and season pass sales. Reconcile assigned ledgers on a weekly basis. Manage student payroll in accordance with all University policies and procedures.
Physical Demands
Obtaining Preferred Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification.
Work Environment
Restricted vacation during peak periods.
Valid CA driver's license required.
Work occasional overtime. Work occasional evenings, weekends and holidays.

Minimum Qualifications
American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
Current Lifeguard, CPR and First Aid Certification.
Certified Pool Operator or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
Experience developing, implementing and assessing aquatics programs, preferably in a university setting.
Leadership and supervisory experience to select, supervise, motivate and evaluate student employees relative to work performance, crisis management, and peer relationships.
Experience directing swim lesson programming for children and adults.
Experience with safety and risk practices as they relate to event and facilities management for recreational and competitive sports in both indoor and outdoor facilities/locations.
Organizational skills to manage multiple programs, materials, information, and people to maximize resources and achieve optimal efficiencies.
Customer service, communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with colleagues, professionals and administrators.
Experience with budget development and skills to monitor expenditures.
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in related area.
Skills to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with diverse students, staff, faculty and the greater community.
Verbal and written skills to write reports and manuals and speak in front of large groups.
Experience operating an aquatic facility.
Experience with Fusion, Activenet or other Recreation Management Software. Leadership and supervisory experience to select, supervise, motivate and evaluate student employees relative to work performance, crisis management, and peer relationships.
