GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Campus Recreation mission is to enhance the quality of life of our unique members by educating and encouraging active participation in recreational opportunities that develop leadership skills, foster social interaction, and reinforce healthy behaviors.
The Fitness Program encompasses Group Fitness and Personal Training. The Fitness program provides a comprehensive schedule of group fitness classes, custom class programs and individual, partner and small group personal training for students, faculty/staff, and other members. Participants have an opportunity to experience over 60 different classes weekly taught by student instructors. The energy-packed, diverse Group Fitness program gives participants the opportunity to achieve their fitness goals. Personal Trainers work closely with clients to provide safe and efficient workouts with innovative ways to improve client's health while helping them achieve their fitness goals. A Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science, Physical Education, Recreation, or related field required.
Applicants with a National Fitness Certification (AFAA, ACE, NASM, NSCA, ACSM) preferred.
Experience in group fitness and personal training is highly recommended.
Experience in event and program management recommended.
Experience in incentive programs preferred.
Valid Driver's License and/or ability to obtain valid Driver's License is required.
Possess and maintain a current American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain.
Possess and maintain a current American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor Certification or willingness to obtain.
Strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills, both verbal and written, are expected.
This position requires someone who is willing to work in a team environment and provide and uphold our quality standards and values.
NOTE: An audition to evaluate skills for group fitness instruction and personal training will be required if selected to interview.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Graduate Assistant will become integrally involved in all facets of Fitness programming for the department. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Assisting with the development and coordination of fitness special events and instructional programs.
Assisting with the development and implementation of fitness class formats.
Teaching group fitness classes and personal training as needed.
Coordinating and implementing surveys and inputting results.
Planning and evaluating program publicity.
Mentoring student team members.
Assisting with participant data collection and statistical analysis.
Hiring, training, supervising and evaluating instructors and personal trainers.
Participating in coordinating, programming, and scheduling student team members.
Assist in conducting and planning monthly team member meetings and development sessions.
Update and implement instructor training and staff manuals.
Inventory control of equipment and music.
Maintaining equipment and assessing equipment needs.
Assist in teaching the ACE Group Fitness Prep Course and ACE Personal Training Prep Course.
Collaborate with other Campus Recreation team members and assist with department events as needed.
Serve as an instructor for American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid classes for Campus Recreation team members.
Other duties may be assigned as deemed necessary by the department.
CONTRACT DATES: August 1, 2023 to May 15, 2024. Graduate Assistant is expected to adhere to the University Administrative Calendar. Two-year assistantship available, pending satisfactory performance.
