The Program Director of Sports and Youth Programs provides leadership to the administration and supervision of a comprehensive sports and youth programs portfolio that includes club sports, intramural sports, and youth programs. These programs are designed to enhance the wellness, leadership development, and participant connection to the campus community through structured sports, events, general recreation activities, and youth programs. This position supervises the Program Coordinator of Sports and Youth Programs with oversight of 20-25 student employees, 15-20 club sport teams with 450 participants, over 40 intramural leagues and events with over 3,200 participants annually, youth program activities (i.e., camps, kids’ night out programs, birthday parties), and events in partnership with other units that support student retention, recruitment, and success.
Provides leadership, strategic planning, fiscal management, facility and equipment management, risk management, and assessment of the delivery of the department’s Sports and Youth Programs that includes a comprehensive intramural sports program with over 40 program activities, club sports program with 15-20 clubs, RecKids program with over 55 program activities.
Develops, implements, and evaluates an Intramural Sports Program, including a diverse offering of individual/dual and team sport activities that meet participant needs, skill levels, and safety/risk management
Provides leadership, administration, and advising of the Club Sport Program that includes a diverse offering of student club sport teams. Works in partnership (facilitator model) with student leaders and clubs to successfully implement club sport activities while adhering to university, department, and national governing body policies, procedures, and safety/risk management
Provides leadership for the development, coordination, and evaluation of RecKids activities and services including youth camps, birthday parties, and kids’ night out
Responsible for the leadership oversight, development, implementation, management, reporting, and evaluation of program budget including but not limited to revenue, payroll, and operation expense totaling $176,000.
Provides short and long-range planning and fiscal management related to sports and youth programs
Manages and maintains budget in accordance with department, division, and university guidelines and policies to ensure prudent stewardship of resources
Provides oversight and coordinates use of sports and youth programs equipment including purchasing, inventory, maintenance, and replacement planning
Recommends operating and capital reserves projects/purchases by providing research and assessment relevant to area needs and product
Reviews and submits program contracts, agreements, and permits for approval through University Procurement Service Center and Human Resources.
Directs, designs, implements, and evaluates a comprehensive high-quality sports and youth recreation program that meets and balances the needs of the campus community and provides a positive experience focused on healthy behaviors and individual/team well-being through sport recreation activity
Provides leadership and direct supervision of one professional staff member including planning, assigning, and reviewing work
Recruits, hires, trains, supervises, mentors, schedules, assigns responsibilities, and evaluates student employees including supervisors
Reviews, reports, and approves club sport financial accounts, including budget development, purchase requests, payments, sponsorships, fundraising, donations
Accountable for the identification, development, application, and evaluation of guidelines, policies, and procedures related to club sports, intramural sports, and youth program operations in accordance with industry standards and department and university
Manages payroll for direct reports with sports and youth programs
Administers and maintains recreational management software (Fusion IM)
Develops, coordinates and evaluates outcome-based leadership trainings for student supervisors, staff, club sport leaders, members and coaches
Accountable for the supervision of daily operations of youth camp programs, birthday parties and kids’ night or day camps
Collaborates in sports and youth programming throughout campus including partnership efforts with Wellness, Student Life, MOSAIC, Residence Life, Dean of Student Office, Hybl Sports Medicine and Performance Center, Family Development Center, and Intercollegiate Athletics
Provides direction, implementation, and evaluation of Faculty/Staff sport leagues and events
Organizes, advises, and approves club sport activity including practices, games, tournaments, events
Assist in the completion and compliance of university minors on campus policies and procedures
In collaboration with Program Coordinator of Sports and Youth Programs, works to advocate for and create sport and youth internship and practicum opportunities for students.

Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree required in Recreation Administration, Sport Management, Higher Education, Exercise Science, Public Administration, Physical Education, Business Administration, or a related field.
Minimum of four (4) years of professional experience that includes the following:
Administration, implementation, and evaluation of one or more of the following: intramural sports/sport leagues, club sports, recreational or student activity programs and events, youth programs, and/or related programs.
Demonstrated fiscal management experience including budget development and
Demonstrated experience in event management, including organizing, coordinating game and facility scheduling, mitigating risk, implementing, and evaluating of sport and/or youth programs.
Demonstrated experience in student supervising, advising, training/development, and evaluating of student employees, club sport officers, club sport coaches, and/or practicum/interns.
Demonstrated experience in sports officiating and sport rule application as well as ability to hire, train, supervise, and evaluate sport officials.
