Job Summary The Operations Manager is responsible for supervising all operations staff, which include Operations Assistants and Building Supervisors. Will assist and support budget planning, monitor expenses, assess program learning outcomes, and work with the SUI marketing team to promote program offerings. The position reports to, and receives general supervision and direction from the Director of Facilities.
Essential Functions and Tasks
Oversees daily operations of facility during operational hours in support of the Director of Facilities.
Recruit, hire, train, scheduling, supervise, and evaluate (75+ students) building operations staff (Student Assistants and Supervisors) who operate the Spartan Recreation and Aquatic Center.
Process payroll and related personnel matters for all staff in a timely manner.
Conduct staff meetings as needed for the purpose of enhancing communications, sharing ideas and assessing success and needs of the staff.
Develops, maintains, and is fiscally responsible for the SRAC Facility Operations Program budget.
Assist the Director of Facilities in the development of annual facility hours based upon historical usage data.
Develop, implement, and enforce student employment policies for operations staff.
Establishes strong working relationships with other campus departments: Department of Kinesiology, Intercollegiate Athletics, Campus Life, Associated Students, and other departments as appropriate.
Work collaboratively with Spartan Recreation programs including fitness, intramural and club sports, aquatics, and climbing wall; and membership/guest services to support department synergy.
Works with SU Human Resources to submit request to recruit, hire, and submit employee records, certifications, required trainings both CSULearn and OHSA standards compliance for workplace requirements.
Serve as the administrator for the departmental recreation management system (Fusion) and Connect2Concepts Software for managing facility reports, incident/injury reports, staff tasks, and facility counts with student staff.
Enforces all building policies and regulations, ensures safety and security of the Spartan Recreation & Aquatic Center, its users and employees; and directs the execution of building emergency protocols and evacuations.
Assist in the review and implementation of the protocols for safety, security and operational needs of the building.
Assists the Director of Facilities in the maintenance, inventory, and repair/replacement plans for furniture and equipment annually.
Assist the Director of Facilities as a liaison custodial and maintenance concerns for the department, and management of work requests for the department with the SJSU Facilities Development and Operations department.
Assist in the management of building access for facilities through coordination with the SU HR and SJSU Facilities Development and Operations Key/Lock and Access department and assist in oversight of the departmental Key Watcher system.
Develops programming and marketing to promote all programming areas and works with SUI Marketing department to support the promotion of Spartan Recreation through direct messaging, membership drives, newsletters, and campus events.
Works with SUI Student Success and Assessment team to ensures learning outcomes are developed and assessed annually for the student staff.
Assist Spartan Recreation and Student Union, Inc. team members in supporting all special event programs and services.
Perform additional duties as assigned.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
The position works in a wide variety of environments including both a typical office as well as an outdoors and indoor facility program-oriented environment.

In general, the position works a schedule based on business needs 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday - Friday, may work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Sports Management, or a related field or equivalent combination of education and/or work experience.
Three years of recreation facility management; progressive supervisory experience in a college/university setting.
Current CPR/First Aid and AED certifications required or must be obtained within the first month of employment.
Within the first month, all new employees are required to complete the following online training sessions through CSULearn, the University's employee training platform. Employees will be enrolled in the training soon after their appointment is processed and will be notified via email from CSULearn@sjsu.edu.

Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Recreation, Sports Management, or a related field or equivalent combination of education and/or work experience.
4-5 years of supervisory experience, preferably in a college/university setting; or a minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible supervisory experience.
Demonstrated experience in large student recreation centers and student development.
Experience in a large, non-profit corporation.
Involvement in professional societies and organizations.
One year experience with Fusion or similar recreation management and scheduling software.
Demonstrated ability to articulate the role campus life plays in recruitment, student success, retention, and graduation, and a commitment to college student development and student leadership.
Knowledge of the LEED rating system and a demonstrated commitment to sustainable business operations.
Certified First Aid, CPR, AED Instructor.
