Purpose of Position The Coordinator of Fitness is responsible for managing a comprehensive operation of fitness programs. Ensures safety, maintains facility and equipment, enhancing the fitness programs for our students.
Fitness and wellness coordinator must possess a dedication to sharing the benefits of a healthy lifestyle with the university community. They express this devotion by developing classes and fitness and wellness events, instructing others in the use of weights, exercise machines, and equipment. Other duties of this occupation include managing fitness and wellness center budgets, organizing and supervising a team of fitness and wellness professionals which may include physical trainers and fitness instructors, among others.
Essential Functions Recruitment/Staff Development: Recruit, hire, train, provide professional development, schedule, supervise, and evaluate a diverse group of Personal Trainers, Group Exercise instructors, and fitness professionals Create, maintain, and modify Fitness class schedules Create an environment inspiring innovation, technology, and effective student development outcomes Ensure safety and quality of programs, practices, and events
Project and Facility Management: Implement fitness and wellness workshops Log, maintain, and assess facility usage and programming initiatives Responsible for development and implementation of the Safety and Risk Management procedures for fitness programs and facilities
Fitness Program Development: Plan, staff, conduct, and assess all fitness classes, university programming, and special events related to or scheduled in the fitness rooms and courts Recruit fitness program participants, members, and volunteers utilizing promotional or marketing methods Develop, compile, and work with marketing to write communications and promotional material for distribution Maintain excellent customer relations with patrons and potential patrons Leadership:
Participate in centralized strategic planning and initiatives, with a focus on programming and innovation Serve as a liaison between department and campus organizations Serve as subject matter expert and work closely to lead and assist students Develop and facilitate workshops and meetings based on the needs of the department Lead a dynamic and comprehensive fitness program Lead the fitness team in contributing to a strategic plan to increase student recruitment and retention Other:
Forecast and operate the Fitness budget, offering recommendations, communicating requests, and maintaining records. This also requires an up-to-date budget Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and able to learn and use institutional software systems Comply with all State and University policies Other duties as assigned

Bachelor's Degree
One year of experience related to the statement of duties and responsibilities; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Current CPR/AED/First Aid Certification must be obtained within 60 days of hire.
Preferred Qualifications Current certification in group fitness instructor or personal training through NSCA, ACE, AFAA, ACSM or NASM. Experience in a higher education recreational setting. Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Recreation Management, Physical Education, or a related field.
