As a member of the Student Affairs Leadership Team, the Director provides vision, oversight and a hands-on approach for the area of Student Recreation. They are responsible for the implementation and enhancement of the strategic plan for Student Recreation services. The Student Recreation Center Director is responsible for creating a diverse and inclusive environment that supports a healthy, active lifestyle for the RRCC community. The position oversees all facets of operating the facility including program development, policies and procedures development, budget management, staff training, and staff supervision. The Director develops and sustains positive working relationships with all campus divisions while encouraging and supporting collaborative activities and events.
Description of Position
Leadership and Administration:
Oversees the development and implementation of comprehensive recreation and wellness programs and services, including but not limited to, student health/wellness, fitness, sport, experiential and adventure recreation programs. Provides ongoing strategic vision that promotes diversity and inclusion, meets the changing needs RRCC students, and promotes the development of interests and behaviors that result in a healthy lifestyle.
Develops and sustains positive working relationships with Instruction, Student Affairs, Business Services, Facilities, Inclusion and Diversity, Human Resources, Information Technology and the remainder of the RRCC community. Develops assessment tools, evaluates and reports on the performance of the facilities, programs, services and marketing. Conceptualizes, designs and evaluates all SRC marketing efforts which include: social media, program guides, digital signage, and additional forms of media.
Facility Management:
Oversees the operation, maintenance, scheduling and use of all Student Recreation Center facilities including the climbing wall, courts, cardio/weight area, fitness studios, meeting rooms, locker rooms, field space, student lounge, trip planning space, and Arvada Fitness Center. Provides on-going risk management and safety protocols for recreation programs, facilities and services. Oversees SRC daily usage, equipment rental, facility reservations, program registration, reporting and other logistics through the Innosoft Fusion software.
Supervision:
Supervises staff at all levels. Mentor staff members on career-related skills, expense reconciliation, interpersonal communication, leadership and supervision skills and additional aspects of personal and professional development. Oversees the implementation of evaluation and professional development for student staff.
Budgetary:
Oversees all business operations of the department including development and management of the operating budget and cash reserves (facilities maintenance and replacement). Regularly meets with RRCC Student Government to ensure student needs are being met at that the SRC is being a proper steward of student fees. Recommend fees to charge for participation in various facilities, programs, and services and facilitate fee collection in accordance with college and state fiscal policies.
Ancillary Duties:
Serve on college committees as assigned. Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, and attending professional development courses and conferences to provide high quality leadership and program development.
Department Summary
Student Recreation is dedicated to offering resources, services, and programs that meet the health and wellness needs of our diverse campus population. Through a comprehensive list of offerings from Group Fitness and Personal Training to fitness classes and adventurous hiking trips with our Adventure Program, we have something for every ability and fitness level. Red Rocks Community College opened the doors of the Student Recreation Center (SRC) at the college’s Lakewood campus on June 26, 2017. The 35,000 square foot facility was designed with student input. It includes gymnasium space, weight/cardiovascular area, fitness studios, climbing and bouldering wall, an outdoor fitness deck, student meeting and gathering spaces, and a multipurpose field.
Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in recreation, exercise science, business management, or a related field. CPR/First Aid/AED Certification. Three (3) years full-time professional experience managing a recreation or fitness facility.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in recreation, exercise science, business management, or a related field. CPR/First Aid/Instructor Certification. Five (5) years of full-time experience managing a recreation or fitness facility. Higher Education experience is preferred. Membership in or experience working in diverse communities and supporting the success of individuals from racial, ethnic, and gender backgrounds that are underrepresented.

Awareness of the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) as it relates to access and accommodation.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Knowledge of national trends in collegiate recreation programs and skill to implement appropriate trends within the RRCC culture.
Ability to work evenings and weekends as required by the responsibilities of this position.
Ability to work from campus (primarily our Lakewood campus with occasional hours at the Arvada campus).
