GENERAL DESCRIPTION: This is a professional position responsible for administering a comprehensive aquatics and safety program including: creating and implementing programs; hiring, training and supervising student employees; serving as a liaison to other departments regarding safety. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. This is a security-sensitive position. Reports to the Associate Director of Facilities, Aquatics, Outdoors.

1.Serves on departmental and university committees.

11.Ability to obtain CPR, First Aid, AED, and American Red Cross Lifeguard certifications within three months of employment.

12.Ability to obtain Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification within three months of employment.

13.Ability to work evenings, nights and weekends as necessary.

14.Physical ability to teach and participate in programs.

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in sports management, recreation management or a related field is required. Master’s degree is preferred.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: One year of related experience is required. Experience in aquatic programming in a collegiate setting; risk management and safety programming; and/or training and managing staff members is preferred. CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications are required within three months of employment. American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification is required within three months of employment. Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification is required within three months of employment. CPO or AFO instructor, Lifeguard Instructor Trainer (LGIT), and Water Safety Instructor Trainer (WSIT) certifications are preferred.
