Pay Transparency Act Full Salary Range: $59,700 - $124,300 Annually
The University of California, San Diego is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is defined as the Full Pay Range. The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position defined as the Expected Pay Scale. Placement within the Expected Pay Scale is determined by internal equity, relevant qualifications, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).

The Marketing Director uses skills as a seasoned, experienced marketing and/or communications professional to perform the full range of marketing and/or communications activities, including coordinating events and developing and implementing promotional strategies, materials and products designed to promote awareness within the campus and/or medical center community and to the general public of department and/or campus and/or medical center services, programs or products. Has a full understanding of industry practices and campus and/or medical center policies and procedures; resolves a wide range of issues.
The Marketing Director is responsible for managing and administering a comprehensive marketing, communications, and promotions program for the department of Recreation which is wide in scope and complexity. This position develops a communications calendar around department programs, events, and initiatives that would reach target audiences through a variety of communication mediums. Responsible for the planning, development, and execution of marketing campaigns for the department including but not limited to multi-media/social media; preparation and creation of digital signage, multi-media presentations, and website content; management of communications and deliverables related to department sponsors and partners; content creation for blogs, newsletters, email blasts, and press releases; management of budgets for marketing area and for department promotional activities; solicitation of advertising; personal appearances and presentations at a variety of on and off campus events, orientations, meetings, and conferences promoting departmental activities; management of departmental and University use of the Recreation brand; ordering of all branded materials including promotion items, apparel, and signage; collaboration and assistance on all design materials; participation in other campus departmental committees.
Provides management and strategic oversight of all Recreation assessments, connects the department with external assessment resources and goals, develops periodic reporting, and ensures alignment with learning outcomes, development opportunities, and marketing/communications strategic plan. Responsible for direct hiring, training, supervision, development, and evaluation of career, contract, and student employees. Coordinates and facilitates meetings, presentations, and bidding requests with related vendors, corporate marketing representatives, and others who interface with the department's marketing and promotional needs and activities.
This position is eligible for a Hybrid flexible work arrangement, which could include a non-standard work schedule, and/or the ability to work off-site part of the time.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree and four years of related/relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and work experience in Marketing, Communications or related subject area.
Thorough knowledge of the campus and / or medical center, including its achievements, mission, vision, goals, objectives and infrastructure.
Thorough knowledge of the campus and / or medical center products and services.
Thorough analytical and written communication skills.
Thorough knowledge of marketing mediums and funding sources. Demonstrated experience with effective marketing tools and targeted marketing for promotions for the department and/or specific program areas.
Thorough knowledge of communication principles, media, and marketing techniques. Demonstrated ability to use journalistic style to write interesting, accurate and comprehensive news and feature articles. Demonstrated experience in writing for Web, eMarketing activities, and utilizing electronic communication tools.
Strong project management skills. Demonstrated skill in organizing, prioritizing and maintaining diverse workload, establishing meeting goals and work schedule deadlines and independently following tasks through to completion.
Strong interpersonal communication and political acumen skills. Ability to communicate both orally and in written form, to moderate meetings and to negotiate with on and off-campus entities. Proven ability to use independent judgement and diplomacy.
Strong skills in event and media activities management. Knowledge of effective event management and promotional concepts for various size events in an academic environment.
Skill in mentoring less experienced staff. Demonstrated supervisory skills, including the ability to effectively and tactfully train, supervise and evaluate career and contract staff, student employees, and program volunteers. Demonstrated ability to transfer motivational impetus to all supervised personnel.
Proven ability to provide successful publicity and promotions for Recreation programs on a campus/community wide level.
Knowledge of purchasing procedures, ability to effectively negotiate and communicate with vendors. Knowledge of bidding procedures for producing promotional material.
Effective use of computer for data collection, graphic design and publications creation, knowledge of relevant software.
General knowledge of web design, ability to supervise web design and programming.
Ability to analyze and execute budgets in areas of planning, advertising and publications.
*Demonstrated ability to support and conduct promotional efforts, identifying potential customers, and attracting them to specific programs/events/functions using print, email, electronic and other mediums.
Strong analytical skills coupled with the ability to interpret data, and to identify and forecast trends; and demonstrated experience with advanced program development and planning processes. Demonstrated experience as a strategic thinker and planner.
