As an integral part of Wellness at ASU, the Associate Director assists with the planning, organizing and directing of the Sports Program and staff of the Sun Devil Fitness Complex. The position focuses on planning, developing, supporting, and enhancing sport programs, and activities, bringing the community to campus and creating new engagement streams to support university charter. Although this position works primarily on the Tempe campus, the individual in this position will serve as a member of the university-wide Sun Devil Fitness and Wellness management team and will also support opportunities at all campus locations.

Essential Duties
Oversees all elements of the ASU Sports Programs that serve students across all four campus locations, including delivery of education from campus partners, team management, safety protocols, recruitment, and oversight of the staff.
Plan, administer, and manage the local and functional operating budgets. Oversees budgetary responsibilities for current and future planning for Sports Programming – One University and make recommendations on spending based on participation and strategic plan goals.
Cultivate a culture of community and connection between the staff and students of ASU.
Provides administrative, supervisory, and management support for Sports Programs One University.
Lead staff to work together in a coordinated manner consistent with University, Division, and departmental goals and objectives.
Effectively engage undergraduate and graduate students, multidisciplinary teams, and partners in planning, implementation, and evaluation of activities
Participates in the daily management of all SDFC staff members. Directly supervises professional and student staff members at the Tempe Campus and Sports Programing Teams One University.
Maintains high levels of communication and cooperation with the other Associate Directors and Executive Director to provide quality events and services and works closely with EOSS at Tempe to plan.
Oversees student staff training and development program for Sports Programming One University.
Ensures that emergency and security procedures and systems for all assigned facilities are comprehensive, communicated, drilled, and current.
Provides the Executive Director with recommendations regarding existing financial expenditures and future budgeting projections, specifically to include revenue generation projections, and ensure that revenue projections are met.
Participates in ongoing discussions to assist the Educational Outreach and Student Services (EOSS) programming team in the development and implementation of an effective campus-wide approach to programming and activities, with the goal of heightening campus engagement.
Develop effective communication methods with participants across One University.
Assists with the development of the department’s strategic plan and the program/service area work plans.
Provides on-site presence and support as needed during events.
Maintains, manages and produces reports as needed.
Develops and implements departmental policies and procedures for assigned facilities and programmatic areas.
Serves as an active member of the departmental leadership team.
Supports SDFC One University mission, vision and functional project management areas.
Advances university and EOSS goals and values.
Participates in evaluation of all staff that is directly supervising
Develop, implement, promote and evaluate employee training curriculum that will develop skills that benefit student's personal, community and career growth/development.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND seven (7) years of related administrative experience, which includes four (4) years of supervisory experience; OR, Eleven (11) years of related administrative experience, which includes four (4) years of supervisory experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Desired Qualifications
Evidence of a Masters Degree preferred in Recreation, Physical Education or related field.
Experience in programming/coordinating intramural sports activities (1 year)
Experience in facility management.
Experience working in a college or university recreation environment.
Experience working in a college or university union environment.
Experience managing and developing student staff members, and/or college age populations.
Evidence of effective written, interpersonal communication skills.
Experience maintaining effective working relationships, presenting to audiences, public speaking, analyzing problems, proposing effective solutions, and effectively delegating responsibilities to staff.
Experience meeting priority deadlines while providing accurate and excellent services.
Experience with any of the following software programs: Fusion, EMS, Lenel Security Systems, and/or Greengate Control Keeper Lighting Control Software.
Demonstrated knowledge in managing, operating and maintaining audio/visual equipment.
