The Department of University Recreation at The University of Alabama is seeking a positive, collaborative, student-oriented leader to join our team as the Coordinator of Sport Programs.
Job Summary: The Coordinator of Sport Programs provides professional management and supervision for the daily operations of Intramural Sports and Sport Club programs for University Recreation, which supports educational and recreational opportunities for the University community. Sport Programs is a integral unit in the Department of University Recreation and Division of Student Life; this position contributes to the success of University Recreation by providing structured programming options during evening hours and weekends, and opportunities for students to build community while playing the sports they love, learn experientially, and encourages healthy lifestyles.
This Coordinator reports to and works closely with the Assistant Director for Sport Programs. Primary duties include but are not limited to: managing comprehensive Intramural Sports and Sport Club programs, hiring, training, and supervision of 50-75 student employees, sports officials' training and performance evaluations, scheduling activities, and serving as a liaison for several Sport Clubs. The Assistant Director and Coordinator will determine a suitable work schedule to ensure appropriate coverage of all events, including evening games and weekend activities, to enhance professional supervision during Sport Program activities. This position also holds shared responsibilities in managing administrative tasks such as payroll, budgeting and accounting, and has personal accountability for financial reporting and responsibility for establishing, enforcing, and following internal processes and controls as outlined in UA policies and procedures. Hours vary to include some nights and weekends for staff training and development, events and other activities. On-call for emergencies in program area. Responsible for completing required training and promoting a safe, hospitable, and respectful workplace. Responsible for holding staff accountable for completion of required training.
Skills and Knowledge: Progressive experience, knowledge, and understanding of officiating, training officials, and applying rules of various sports. Understanding of the diverse needs of established and emerging Sport Clubs. Demonstrated knowledge and skills associated with successfully managing a collegiate recreation program.
Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am-5:00pm. Hours vary to include some nights and weekends for staff training and development, events and other activities. On call for call for emergencies in program area.

Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of experience in Intramural Sports and/or Sport Clubs in a collegiate recreation or municipal recreation setting; or Master’s degree and one (1) year of experience in Intramural Sports and/or Sport Clubs in a collegiate recreation or municipal recreation setting. CPR & First Aid Instructor certification required, or ability to attain within six (6) months of hire date. Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.
Graduate assistantship and/or internship experience will be considered if performed with primary emphasis in Intramural Sports and/or Sport Clubs programming in a collegiate recreation or municipal recreation setting.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree and two (2) years of progressive experience leading Intramural Sports and/or Sport Club programs. Knowledge of educational theories, philosophies and application for student development. Active sports official and/or progression in officiating for various sports. Knowledge of relational/psychological theories of human behavior and applications in a leadership development.
