Graduate Assistant – Member Services
This position provides support to the daily operations of Member Services and assists with the development, planning, facilitation, and assessment of the department’s student staff. This position reports directly to the Assistant Director for Member Services.
Member Services Duties
Attend Professional Staff meetings, trainings, and occasional special meetings
Responsible for developing and maintaining the Member Services staff schedule in When2Work, fall, spring, summer, and all school breaks
Complete Timekeeper training and input timesheets in a timely and accurate manner
Oversee and facilitate New Hire and Cashier training when necessary
Oversee the Member Services staff interview process, and recommend new hires to the Assistant Director
Use conflict resolution skills to assist Facility Managers with situations that occur in the facility
Assist with the development and management of the Member Services Budget
Responsible for Outstanding Equipment follow-up and suspension of accounts
Responsible for Incident Report follow-up procedures
Oversee program area Incentive programs to include positive/negative action points and the progressive discipline process
Responsible for Locker Renewal and Cleanout procedures
Create Agenda and attend Member Services All-Staff Meetings
Become a member of NIRSA and attend the regional and national conference
Assist with R25 Live daily schedule and room sheets for Member Services staff
Assist with Emerging Leaders Institute
Attend Student Affairs Graduate Assistant meetings and luncheons
Assist with monthly Student Management Team meetings
Contribute to the ongoing development and facilitation of the department’s comprehensive risk management plan by using critical thinking skills
Attend and complete UTSA, and Campus Recreation required training and workshops
Perform additional duties as assigned
Departmental Responsibilities
Join and participate in at least two department committees
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in education or a similarly related field
Enrolled in a degree-seeking graduate program at UTSA
Successful completion of criminal background check
Experience
Working knowledge of the Microsoft office suite
Working knowledge of When to Work scheduling and Fusion recreation software preferred
Experience presenting and facilitating group meetings
Excellent written and language skills and the ability to work with diverse groups
Graduate Assistant – Outdoor Pursuits
The Outdoor Pursuits Graduate Assistant will work closely with the Assistant Director to develop and manage a broad-service outdoor recreation program, emphasizing student development, wellness, environmental stewardship, and adventure. This assistantship is designed to pair with a course of graduate study and effectively develop a high-functioning student leader into a capable student affairs professional with a solid base of experience and proficiency in the full scope of necessary competencies.
Position Responsibilities
Assist with all facets of the Outdoor Pursuits program, including the development and management of adventure trips, clinics, climbing wall, and Outdoor Resource Center
Recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, supervision, and evaluating student staff
Frequent weekend and some holiday travel as part of adventure trips
Lead student outreach and marketing efforts for the program
Coordinate events with internal and external departments/programs
Perform 5-10 hrs/week clerical duties, including detail-sensitive paperwork and routine data entry
Assist with annual planning and budgeting
Assist with tracking, assessment, and reporting of program goals, operational and student learning outcomes
Assist with the implementation and review of the outdoor pursuits risk management plan
Assist student staff with all aspects of routine operations, including customer service, climbing wall operations, equipment lending, maintenance, and cleaning
Represent Campus Recreation in the campus community via committee involvement and participation in various university functions
Perform additional duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree
Enrolled in a degree-seeking graduate program at UTSA
Excellent written and oral skills and the ability to work with diverse groups
Ability to obtain Wilderness First Responder certification within 120 days of hire
A valid driver’s license and excellent driving record
Working knowledge of PC hardware and Microsoft Office software
Ability to lift 50 pounds
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in a collegiate outdoor recreation program
Experience in training and evaluating trip leaders, lending program staff, and climbing wall staff
Experience in planning, supervision, and program development
Current certifications in one or more of the following: Wilderness First Responder, Swift Water Rescuer, Single Pitch Climbing, Canoe/Kayak, Leave No Trace
Successful completion of criminal background check
