Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director for Competitive Sports, and the Medical Director of Athletics, the Campus Recreation Contract Athletic Trainer will coordinate medical care and comprehensive athletic training services for Towson students participating in Campus Recreation programming, mainly Sport Clubs. Duties include, but are not limited to medical clearance, injury prevention, care of athletic injuries and rehabilitation while working in a collaborative environment with Towson University Athletics Medical Staff and with other sports performance professionals. This individual will work with the Campus Recreation Athletic Trainer to cover all clinic hours and sport club home events.
In consultation with the Campus Recreation Athletic Trainer and Sports Medicine & Performance Staff, formulate effective therapeutic treatment plans, implement treatments, and monitor progress. Possess technical and practical expertise in the appropriate application and supervision of a wide range of rehabilitative exercises/therapy and diagnostic equipment. Maintain athletic training clinic hours in Burdick Hall. Provide sideline athletic training coverage for weekend sport club home events.
Apply evaluative skills and techniques for orthopedic and medical problems associated with athletics participation through the Sport Clubs medical clearance process. Record, analyze and maintain medical records for daily treatments/Rehabilitation, practice and game limitations, medical services, and referrals. Communicate and interact with medical professionals, coaches, and administrative staff. Coordinate diagnostic tests. Secure test results and prepare information for Physician Clinics. Gather information needed for insurance claims. Follow up as needed. Attend Campus Recreation & Sports Medicine staff meetings, planning and training sessions.
Inventory and order medical supplies and equipment. Work with the Campus Recreation facility staff to schedule appropriate maintenance and cleaning of the Burdick Hall Athletic Training Room. Evaluate and ensure compliance with program and risk management policies. Represent Campus Recreation & Sports Medicine at various campus, division and community functions as assigned. Develop professional relationships with officers and club members. Educate club officers and Safety & Facility Officers on departmental risk management procedures, concussion protocol, etc. Contribute to the accomplishment of departmental goals and initiatives, as assigned.
This position will have clinic hours between 10am-5pm 4 days a week and weekend coverage of Sport Club home events during the school year. Position does not travel with teams.
Qualifications and Skills:
Bachelors degree
One year of Athletic Training Experience
Certifications: BOC, CPR/First Aid w/ AED
Eligible for Maryland State ATC License
Ability to evaluate medical condition of student-athletes prior to and during their participation in competitive sports clubs, intramurals and recreation.
Implement treatments and rehabilitation services.
Ability to work and understand human performance in relation to workload management.
Preferred:
Two years of clinical athletic training experience.
Preference in FMS, SFMA, PES, CES, or CSCS credentials or equivalent.
Clinical experience in Athletic Training at the collegiate level.
