Indiana University Campus Recreational Sports is seeking an Associate Director of Operations. This new position will report to the Executive Director of Campus Recreational Sports and will serve as a member of the senior departmental leadership team. The Associate Director will provide strategic direction and leadership in support of programming designed to create positive health and well-being outcomes for the Indiana University – Bloomington community. The Associate Director will provide direct oversite for functions including facility support, facility operations, facility scheduling, risk management, information technology, and aspects of self-directed recreation.

Qualities of Successful Candidates
We are seeking individuals who are skilled in establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships within the department and on campus. Successful candidates will have prior experience in multiple program/operational areas and a demonstrated record of developmental leadership with full-time personnel, successful project management, and strategic planning. This role is central in supporting health and wellbeing outcomes for a changing and diverse student population.
Job Specific Responsibilities:
Provides highest level of operational leadership and coordination of assigned staff members to define operational practices and standards; provides direction and guidance on high priority operations/projects/initiatives.
Establishes short-term business plans and long-term operational objectives, including managing project timelines/deliverables and developing resource plans for multi-phase operational initiatives.
Leads a high functioning, collaborative team of professionals through effective recruitment, selection, onboarding, coaching and mentoring while providing consistent feedback and performance improvement plans.
Manages high-level assignments and allocation of resources, including negotiating and coordinating initiatives that involve staff in other departments/areas/teams; may coordinate large-scale projects with wide audiences in support of recreational programming.
Makes budgetary recommendations/proposals based on resource needs and ensures cost containment.
Researches and stays up to date on new industry standards, best practices, and strategic marketing; responsible for the implementation of new protocols/procedures to address business needs.
Works collaboratively with other unit leaders, volunteers, students and/or faculty experts across departments in recommending standards, best practices, and related policies/procedures.
Prepares management reports and summaries for senior administration, executive director, steering and advisory committees; acts as an advisor to executive committees; serves on various university committees, communities of practice, and task forces related to recreation and well-being, educational initiatives and institutional priorities.
Required: Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Sport Management, or related field
Required: Four (4) or more years of experience with structured recreational programming and operations
Required: One (1) or more years of management experience
Required: CPR/AED, Standard First Aid, and Prevention of Disease Transmission within 180 days
Preferred: Master’s degree in recreation or related field with minimum of 8 years full-time experience that demonstrates progressive levels of responsibility for recreational sports operations, human resources, event management; project management, supervision of professional and support staff employees, fiscal management, risk management, and facility management. Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal relations skills. Demonstrated ability with computer software, including word processing, spreadsheets, and Microsoft Outlook required. Demonstrated ability to work in a student development model and collaborative team environment is highly desirable.
