The William & Mary Department of Campus Recreation is seeking applicants for a new Assistant Director of Student Development and Marketing to join our inclusive and collaborative team. The Assistant Director will support Campus Recreation’s approximately 300 student employees by providing strategic leadership and operational oversight in the areas of student staff development, marketing, facilities, and events management. The Assistant Director will train and advise student employees on policies and procedures and will work closely with colleagues across the university to promote opportunities available to students, staff, and the campus community as a whole.
Examples of day-to-day duties include but are not limited to
Managing and overseeing in-person promotional opportunities, such as tabling, presentations, and presence around campus and at events.
Creating, managing, and overseeing Campus Recreation’s social media outreach.
Organizing and implementing annual department-wide student training.
Recruiting, hiring, onboarding, training, evaluating, and supervising student facilities operations staff and marketing assistants, in addition to directly supervising approximately 60-85 student workers throughout the calendar year.
Administering risk management protocols including but not limited to emergency action plans, accident and incident reports, training standards, access/alarm training standards, disinfection systems, opening and closing procedures, security and safety checks, and facility inspections.
Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Management, Business, Communications, or a related field OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
Experience directly related to the position working in the field of student affairs, communications, marketing, or similar (Graduate Assistantships will be considered.)
Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Strong interest in providing quality recreational opportunities to all members of the William & Mary Community to enhance and foster a lifelong appreciation for health, wellness, and recreation.
Master’s degree in student affairs or a related discipline.
Experience with Canva or a similar marketing design program.
Experience with group leadership and student development.
Working knowledge of marketing techniques/practices utilized in higher education.
Experience utilizing various social media platforms.
Supervisory experience is highly preferred, including prior experience with supervising students.
Conditions of Employment
This position requires additional hours beyond the typical workweek, including occasional night and weekend work as needed to meet the business needs of the operation.
This is a restricted position, subject to the continued availability of funding.
Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain CPR/AED/First Aid certification within the first six months from the date of hire.
