Campus Recreation and Wellness (CRW), a department within the Division of Student Affairs at Western Carolina University, is committed to fostering a campus-wide culture of recreation and wellness through a comprehensive array of programs and services that educate, empower, and engage individuals to pursue and sustain healthy, balanced lifestyles. The Assistant Director of Sport Programs reports to the Associate Director of Programs and is responsible for the administration and oversight of the Intramural Sports and Club Sports programs.
Directly manage a comprehensive intramural sports program and club sport program
Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise and evaluate student employees including interns, supervisors, sport officials, program assistants and potentially graduate assistants
Assess and revise intramural sport and tournament rules to remain up to date with the current rules set for each sport or activity
Coordinate logistics for club sport sponsored activities such as tournaments, games, practices, informational fairs, meetings, etc.
Prepare and manage the annual budget for all sport programs
Oversee business operations for the club sport teams in accordance with state and university guidelines
Purchase program equipment and keep accurate inventories and replacement schedules
Conduct participant ejection and suspension procedures and sanctions
Utilize various software platforms to manage programs including Fusion, IMLeagues and When2Work
Assist in assessing program strategic goals, preparing semester and annual reports and annual action plans
Develop and maintain a comprehensive marketing plan for sport programs including, but not limited to, print and digital publications, signage, departmental newsletters, participation in admissions recruitment activities and orientation sessions
Supervise various evening and weekend activities as needed
Attend departmental or divisional meetings
Serve on divisional and university committees as needed
Participant in large-scale department and divisional programming initiatives and events
Contribute to departmental functions to ensure delivery of departmental mission
Perform other job-related duties as required or assigned
Master’s degree in Sport Management or Administration, Physical Education, or related field or be currently pursuing a master’s degree in an aforementioned program or related field prior to employment start date
Current First Aid/CPR/AED Certification or ability to obtain a certification within 6 months of employment
Previous experience in training officials in various team sports
Experience working as an official in one or more team sports at the high school level or above
