The University of Akron, Department of Student Recreation and Wellness Services is seeking a dynamic and energetic Manager, Facilities & Aquatics that will be responsible for developing, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive Aquatics Program for a diverse campus community. Working within the Division of Student Affairs in the beautiful Student Recreation & Wellness Center and Ocasek Natatorium, the Manager, Facilities & Aquatics is responsible for coordinating all aspects of an aquatics program that meets the needs and interests of the UA campus community and greater Akron community. Specific responsibilities include the following:
Facility Management
Responsible for the daily operations of the Ocasek Natatorium (ONAT) 50-Meter Competition Pool & SRWC Leisure Pool area, with assistance from Assistant Director, Facilities
Coordinate reporting of maintenance issues in a timely manner to appropriate staff
Assist with development of policies and procedures related to operational structure of Student Recreation & Wellness Services Department
Assist with supervision of all SRWS Facilities and provide service using developed customer service policies.
Operate aquatic spaces with policies and procedures that meets/exceeds applicable county and state health codes and regulations
Program Management
Coordinate a pool schedule that encompasses many user types, including: academic classes, departmental programming, athletics swim/dive team practice, community rental groups, and others
Coordinate a schedule of competitive aquatic events with various stakeholders, including: UA varsity swimming & diving team, USA swimming & USA diving events, YMCA swimming events, High School swimming & diving events, and others as available
Manage paperwork related to facility rentals ensuring that each team/event has all necessary documentation in place prior to start of season/event
Develop, direct, supervise, and evaluate American Red Cross programming to include; Lifeguarding classes & swim lessons (group & private)
Collaborate with other departments and student organizations to offer creative and innovative programs and events including club sports activities, intramurals, student life, Greek life, and others
Coordinate the Leisure Pool Birthday Party program
Oversee policy & procedure development for aquatic programming
Personnel Management
Oversee hiring, training, scheduling, supervision, payroll, and evaluation of all aquatic program area staff to include; Head Lifeguards, Lifeguards, ARC Instructors, and Colorado Timing staff
Manage monthly inservice training, additional safety training, mock emergencies, and semester audits for aquatic program staff.
Assist in planning and execution of safety training for SRWS facility staff.
Manage the aquatic program area staff certification database and records retention
Assist in resolving patron facility use issues
Budget Management
Manage budget, strategic planning and regular reporting for aquatics program area
Make recommendations & purchase as necessary equipment necessary for operation of all aquatic facilities and programs
Other
Assist in the marketing, both digital and print, of aquatic program activities
Assist, along with all other SRWS program area managers, to create a positive work environment that puts an emphasis on student development, professional outcomes, and effective collaboration
Participate on departmental and campus committees as assigned

Position requires a relevant Bachelor's Degree; Lifeguarding certification, Lifeguard Instructor &/or Water Safety Instructor (or ability to obtain within 6-months of hire); a minimum of two (2) years experience in aquatic program development and coordination of an aquatic facility; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, manage time efficiently, and prioritize tasks as required; supervisory experience of staff and/or students; strong oral and written communication; ability to work a non-traditional work week including nights and weekend; ability to demonstrate a commitment to diversity, social justice, and cultural competence and ability to work in a multi-cultural environment
