Reporting to the Senior Director for Health & Wellness, the Associate Director of Operations is a member of the leadership team for the department of Recreational Services. This position supervises three full-time staff members and provides strategic leadership and management for operations within Recreational Services, which includes: oversight of an 82,000 sq ft facility, member services, facility operations, aquatics, and risk management.

Facility Operations 

• Oversees the planning and administration of facility operations for Recreational Services.
• Develop and execute plans for facility enhancements - including capital improvements and major maintenance.  Use assessment practices to inform decision-making.
• Review and evaluate aquatic operations, ensuring compliance with state regulations.
• Maintain oversight of facility scheduling, event coordination, facility user agreements, certificates of liability insurance, and event billing, in compliance with University policy.
• Develop risk management, emergency response and continuity of operation plans. Alongside Assistant Director, ensure all safety practices are implemented and followed.
• Coordinate and communicate with other University departments as needed, such as Facility & Operations, Housekeeping, and others.

Business Operations

• Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure effective fiscal operations.
• Serve as department expert and contact for all departmental technology systems, including Fusion, EMS, and WhenIWork.
• Provide direction for a fee-based community membership program.
• Develop and manage operating budgets for areas of responsibility to ensure alignment with fiscal allocation.  Jointly supervise recreation student finance assistant and coordinate regularly with Division accountant.
• Serve as the merchant contact for credit card accounts; submit reports for sales tax and membership partnerships, such as Silver Sneakers.
• Facilitate all annual, continuing, and one-time vendor agreements and contracts with Procurement Services.
• Work with Marketing Coordinator to ensure facility signage and website are up to date for areas of responsibility.
• Serve as primary contact for University Human Resources and the department expert for hourly staff job postings, as well as offers and onboarding processes.

Leadership

• Provide direction, leadership, and ongoing development to full-time and student staff.
• Collaborate with Associate Director, Programs & Marketing with short and long-term strategic planning and leadership for the department.
• Utilize data and feedback to drive change while advancing the culture, policies, and procedures to meet evolving recreation and wellness needs.
• Develop and implement assessment tools.  Conduct surveys, analyze data, and prepare reports.  Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness.
• Provide direction for department special events and collaborative events with other university departments.
• Ensure focus on supporting diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging objectives in all aspects of Recreation operations, including physical accessibility and ADA compliance.
• Serve as a member of the Student Affairs Leadership Team.
