The department consists of several functional units including the Adventure Leadership Institute (ALI), Fitness and Wellness, Operations and Member Services, Aquatics and Sport Programs.
The Recreation Operations and Membership Coordinator provides leadership, supervision and risk management oversight to Recreation Operations Staffing, building operations and customer management. The Coordinator hires, trains, evaluates and supervises Recreation Operations Staff, including lead and front line staff. The Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and overseeing positive, front line customer service to OSU Students, community members and guests, appropriate facility use, access to sporting/rental equipment, laundry sanitation. This position manages and directs the recreation operations of all department facilities. Promote, recruit and maintain membership for all eligible members. Create, implement and evaluate systems for membership sales, including ongoing analysis of membership trends, market potential, and opportunities for increased membership sales and retention

This position is responsible for membership to Recreational Sports facilities, including access, lockers, faculty/staff, students and daily guests. This position is responsible for making decisions that are ethically sound, including the sustainability of human, environmental and fiscal resources. Manage all front-of-the-house aspects of recreation management software. The Coordinator directly supervises approximately eighty student employees. The services provided by the Recreation Operations Staff occur seven days a week and often extend past regular operating hours; including Dixon Recreation Center, Student Legacy Park, and McAlexander Fieldhouse.
The position reports to the Rec Sports Associate Director for Operations and Events and directly supervises student employees
Minimum/Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Student Services, Business, Education, Exercise and Sport Science, Communications or related field.
Demonstrated experience in recreation or closely related field.
Knowledge and ability in employee development, supervising, training, and evaluating of employees.
Experience interacting directly with customers and/or customer service experience
Demonstrated ability to make independent decisions that consider future implications and impacts on collaborating programs.
Demonstrated experience, knowledge and ability in supervising, training, and evaluating of employees, customers.
Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with members, alumni and university community.
Proficient with PC based computer systems and software including Microsoft Office, recreation management, and other software programs and databases.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Excellent organizational, leadership and decision making skills to prioritize workload and meet assignments while handling multiple tasks and deadlines.
Proficient in staff scheduling software.
Exceptional problem-solving skills, ability to quickly learn new concepts and methodologies as needed.
Able to work both independently and collaboratively in cross-functional teams and cross all levels to drive results.
Demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity, such as the ability to build relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders.
Certification in CPR for the Professional Rescuer with AED, Standard First Aid and Blood Borne Pathogens/Universal Precautions within 90 days of hire.
Preferred (Special) Qualifications:
Master’s degree in a field appropriate to the work or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Proficient in Qualtrics survey (or like programs).
Proficient in Fusion (Innosoft) database system management.
Ability to demonstrate forward thinking mind set and willingness to try new programs/techniques with a business mindset to enhance use of facility and increase revenue.
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
Ability to navigate through ambiguity and break down complex problems into simplified and manageable parts.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule:
The services provided by the Operations staff occur seven days a week. The Operations Coordinator may need to occasionally adjust their schedule to accommodate Operational needs on evening and weekends.
Employee may need to push, pull, lift and carry objects.
Typical work schedule will be between 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. including evening and weekend hours to engage, supervise, and support Operations staff and participants.
Primarily office setting, but occasionally requires a person to be active in set-up to clean up for building operations.
