Job Description:
The Binghamton Tennis Center is uniquely positioned as the home of the Binghamton University Division I, varsity tennis programs (men's & women's) and the only local dedicated tennis facility open to the general public. The Adult Development Director is responsible for ensuring quality experiences and services for all Tennis Center patrons by providing the leadership, direction, and support to team members to execute our mission of supporting both the needs of Binghamton University, as well as growing the sport of tennis locally.
Reporting to the Assistant Director, Tennis Operations, the Adult Development Director is responsible for facilitating a safe and enjoyable environment for members and guests, while exceeding University standards of professionalism and teamwork. This role requires a strong leader who has excellent communication skills, attention to detail, the ability to provide innovative and creative direction, and has a passion for developing and impacting people. The focus of this position is to provide leadership to assistant teaching professional staff and develop creative, on-trend and responsive adult tennis programming, driving positive member experiences, which in turn, drives profitability.
Excellent organizational, administrative, communication, leadership, decision-making and customer service skills are essential, as well as the ability to work individually and in a team setting. The ability to effectively supervise and motivate adult programs and staff is required.
Roles and Responsibilities:
The requirements of this position approximate: 20 hours/week private or group lessons, 10 hours/week dedicated to adult development programs, and 10 hours/week to be spent on administrative work associated with tournament/event organization and promotions. May be required to provide facility coverage as needed (i.e., opening/closing/weekends).
Work with the AD Tennis Operations, to create, plan, implement and evaluate all adult teaching programs and events, including quarterly social events. Programming and events should cover a full 12- month cycle and reflect the needs of clientele and opportunities for program growth.
Maintain fidelity to instructional values of center, curriculum design and instructional programs as outlined by the AD Tennis Operations. The Adult Development Director is expected to create appropriate adult teaching curriculums for all levels of adult programming.
Assist supervisor with facilitating regular meetings with adult instructional staff to review programs, client progress and any concerns or issues.
Assure that training, education, and procedures are aligned with the university's goals such as safety and risk management, sustainability strategies and core values.
Facilitate growth of sales in adult instruction by conducting potential client skills evaluations, converting inquiries into lesson sales. Work with team coaches on progressive practice plans and encourage individual team member lessons.
Create welcoming atmosphere for adult participation and skills growth; help adults clients find matches or partners to play with on open court time when requested.
Communicate with USTA regarding Adult Teams and Leagues and with local adult league coaches; send out match reviews.
Adult Development Director is expected to work adult summer camps and assist when needed with higher level junior summer camp participants. Expectation is that Adult Development Director will assist in the recruitment, hiring and training of summer camp assistants to ensure quality instruction is provided.
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of all center policies, tennis programs and associated skill- levels.
Assist supervisor and marketing team with promotion of adult programs and services. Adult
Development Director is expected to provide all necessary logistical and programmatic information needed for accurate marketing.
Partnering with the university, leadership and staff, promote a healthy and positive working, social and recreational environment for all employees and members.
Customer service issues regarding injuries, altercations/disturbances, incidents/accidents, failure to comply with policy, or staff non-compliance with facility policies and standards should be handled in an appropriate manner representative of the organization's mission and objectives and brought to the attention of the supervisor immediately.
Maintain accurate adult program statistics, reports and data to track participation, client progress and teaching curricula. This information is critical in providing services, setting facility, and staffing schedules and identifying budgetary considerations.
Participate in all organizational training, retreats and meetings as scheduled.
Actively pursue professional growth through participation in educational seminars and professional organizations to enhance job performance and to provide career development. The expectation is that this will be done in collaboration and after consultation with their supervisor.
Monitor and evaluate programs through both formal and informal methods to identify areas in need of improvement and/or new programs to be added.
Must be or become CPR/AED and First Aid certified, fulfill USTA Safe Play, and Child Protection requirements once a year as a condition of employment. Fulfill PCI Compliance training, as applicable.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in recreation, exercise science, kinesiology, sport management, or related field; or a minimum of four years professional related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
At least five years tennis teaching experience at various levels; USPTA certified professional Level 2 Binghamton Tennis Center (PTR equivalent) or higher
Excellent organizational, administrative, communication, leadership, teaching skills are essential, as well as the ability to work individually and in a team setting.
Must be open to a flexible work schedule including evening and weekend obligations.
Experience working with membership management and reservation software packages.
