Position Summary: The Fitness and Operations Coordinator is responsible for the direction, planning, organization, supervision, and evaluation of the fitness programming & front desk operations within the Student Recreation Center. The position provides leadership, oversight, and empowers professional and student staff to develop and foster fitness/wellness programs that promote student learning, development, and success.

Responsibilities:
Program Development:
Implement, promote, and market group fitness, personal training, small group training, fitness assessment, and wellness programs.
Plan, implement, and assess special events around health, fitness, and wellness topics to raise awareness among students.
Dismantle barriers for participation amongst underrepresented populations in recreation.
Collaborate with other departments to create inclusive programs that promote and celebrate diversity.
Maintain a high level of accessibility to students and external partners while responding in an appropriate and timely manner to questions, concerns, requests, and feedback.
Establish, implement, train, enforce, and ensure compliance with risk management, safety, and injury policies and procedures.
Instruct American Red Cross certification courses for SRC student staff members.
Leadership and Supervision:
Recruit, hire, train, supervise, evaluate, and schedule student staff members that include: Recreation Assistants, Personal Trainers, Group Fitness Instructors, and Student Coordinators.
Manage all components of the Student Recreation Center Service Desk. Includes: facility access, program registration, equipment checkout, membership sales, customer service initiatives, etc.
Plan, schedule, and facilitate staff meetings and development opportunities.
Develop, assess, and revise learning outcomes for student staff and the program under the direction of the Director.
Assist with planning and leading SRC All-Staff events such as All Staff Training and End of Year Celebrations.
Develop and maintain program and employee manuals.
Administrative:
Manage the day-to-day operation of the fitness programming and operations for the Student Recreation Center.
Oversee and assist with development of policies and procedures for group fitness, personal training, small group training, fitness assessment, and wellness programs.
Maintain records, prepare, and analyze statistical reports, evaluations, participant surveys, and data using Innosoft Fusion software.
Contribute to SRC student development and training planning and efforts.
Research and recommend fitness and recreation equipment.
Develop and distribute all marketing materials for fitness programs.
Stay abreast of best practices and network with colleagues via professional associations.
Staff major events and programs, including campus events.
Manage budget for fitness and operations programming.
Conducts bi-weekly payroll for fitness and operations staff.

Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, recreation, sports management, physical education, or a closely related field from an accredited institution. One (1) year of experience in personal training and/or group fitness teaching and evaluation. One (1) year of experience with event or wellness programming. One (1) year of experience supervising, training, developing, and evaluating student employees. American Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED instructor Certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment. National Certification in personal training or group fitness from a NCCA accredited organization (AFAA, NASM, NSCA, ACE, ACSM, etc.) or ability to obtain within 1 year of employment.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Sport Management or a closely related field from an accredited institution. Experience within collegiate fitness and well-being programs including group exercise, personal training and wellness programming and events. Two (2) years of work experience managing operations of a recreation facility in higher education. Experience in successfully marketing recreation programs. Budget management experience. Membership in or experience working in diverse communities and supporting the success of students and staff from racial, ethnic, and gender backgrounds that are underrepresented.
Required knowledge, skills, & abilities: Ability to work with a diverse student and staff population. Verbal and written communication skills including the ability to give and receive information accurately and present information to groups and in public settings. Effective leadership including modeling, inspiring a shared vision, challenging the process, enabling others to act, and encouraging others (recognizing contributions) and supervisory skills. Ability to work from campus (primarily our Lakewood campus with occasional hours at the Arvada campus).

Red Rocks Community College opened the doors of the Student Recreation Center (SRC) at the college’s Lakewood campus on June 26, 2017. The 35,000 square foot facility was designed with student input. It includes gymnasium space, weight/cardiovascular area, fitness studios, climbing and bouldering wall, an outdoor fitness deck, student meeting and gathering spaces, and a multipurpose field.
