The Department of Recreational Sports at The University of Louisiana at Lafayette has recently been approved to hire 2 graduate assistants for the upcoming 2023 – 2025 Academic years.
Application deadlines will be Sunday, May 28th. Interviews will be determined and scheduled as applications come in. If selected for a specific assistantship, applications to the graduate school must be completed by June 30th.

Fitness Graduate Assistant
Fitness Graduate Assistant
Responsibilities:
This position reports to the Fitness Coordinator. A combined workload of 20 hours per week is expected. Evening and/or weekend hours may be required. The main responsibilities include:
Planning, development, and implementation of fitness programs including Group Exercise, Personal Training, and Small Group Training
Responsible for scheduling Student Fitness Center staff
Contributing to student development efforts including staff trainings/meetings and mid- and end of semester evaluations
Promotion of the fitness programs and the Rec Sports department
Supporting in the recruitment and training of new student trainers and instructors through the ACE Personal Training Prep Course and Group Exercise Mentorship Program
Assisting with administrative work such as student payroll, development and adjustment to policies, inventory and purchasing processes of equipment
Willingness to teaching Group Exercise classes and/or personal training if needed
Helping with department, division, and university special events as needed
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology/Exercise Science, Sport Management, Recreation or related field with a minimum 3.0 GPA; Admission into a UL Lafayette graduate program; experience in fitness programming in relation to group fitness and/or personal training; experience teaching fitness classes and/or training clients; ability to work with a diverse group of individuals; strong organizational and management skills; professionalism; current Red Cross CPR/AED and First Aid Certifications (or able to obtain them within the first month of employment); enrollment in a full-time basis (minimum 9 hours per semester) to receive graduate assistantship, stipend, and tuition waivers
Preferred Qualifications:
Aspirations to become Campus Recreation professional; knowledge of Innosoft Fusion Rec Management; strong verbal and written communication skills; current Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer; at least one of the following group fitness and/or personal training certifications: ACSM, NSCA, AFAA, ACE or other recognized certifying organization related to fitness; additional credited specialty certification relating to fitness and wellness
Assistantship Information
Date: 2-year position beginning in mid-August, 2023 with completion in mid-May, 2025. Appointment is contingent on maintaining good academic standing with the university as a full-time student (9 or more credit hours fall and spring).
Compensation: $1,007.00/month stipend plus full tuition waiver (in or out of state). Tuition waiver does not cover student fees.

Assist in the administration of all aspects of the Recreational Sports program, which include Facility Operations, with potential opportunities to work with other programs within the department.
Responsibilities:
Maintain weekly administrative office hours
Hire, train, directly supervise and evaluate up to 50 student Supervisors and Assistants
Plan and conduct monthly in-service trainings for staff
Responsible for scheduling Facility Operations staff
Assist with facility reservations by handling administrative duties and staffing for all campus wide special events
Assist with facility reservations by handling administrative duties and staffing for all external group special events
Inspect all facilities to ensure that they are free of hazards and safe for patron use
Provide leadership to various student staff committees
Assist in the creation and implementation of new policies and procedures and enforcing existing policies
Work evenings (night duty) and serve as the departmental professional presence at least once a week and occasional weekends
Helping with department, division, and university special events as needed
Directly plan setup of various departmental facilities and spaces to account for a diverse offering of open rec offerings
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology/Exercise Science, Sport Management, Recreation, or related field with a minimum 3.0 GPA
Admission into a UL Lafayette graduate program
Experience in facility management with supervisorial responsibility
Experience with the planning and implementation of staff trainings and bi-weekly meetings
Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals
Strong organizational and management skills and professionalism
Current Red Cross CPR/AED and First Aid Certifications (or able to obtain them within the first month of employment)
Full acceptance into a University of Louisiana at Lafayette Graduate Program in the Department of Kinesiology.
Demonstrated involvement within National Intramural Recreational Sport Association NIRSA
Current Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Knowledge of Innosoft Fusion Rec Management
Aspirations to become Campus Recreation professional
Supervision Received: Direct supervision received from the Facilities Coordinator.
Supervision Exercised: Part-time Facilities student staff to include Assistants, Supervisors, Program Assistants, Student Maintenance Team, Rockwall Employees
