Position Summary/ Description:

This position reports to the Assistant Director for Recreational Programs and Activities. Works collaboratively with department staff to aid the Director in developing and managing a comprehensive Campus Recreation program at the University at Albany.

Primary responsibilities include the oversight, design, implementation and management of the Intramural Sports program. The Graduate Assistant will be responsible for coordinating and developing the schedules of the Intramural Sports staff and game schedules. They will also be asked to collaborate with outside entities and other University at Albany departments (i.e. Student Association, Student Affairs). Successful candidates will need to be able to work effectively with other Professional Staff, other Graduate Assistants, and student staff to provide effective programing.

The office of Campus Recreation provides recreational programs and activities to all UAlbany students. Ensuring participant safety, engaging, social atmosphere, and promoting a sense of community among participants are a primary concern. The Office of Campus Recreation offers a variety of Intramural Sports and Recreational Programs and believes in an inclusive environment for all.

Responsibilities:

1. Required to work an average of 20 hour/ week with some weekend and night requirements.
2. Develop, plan and execute all aspects of the Intramural Sports program. Oversee the daily operations of the Intramural Sports program.
3. Aid in the development of a program calendar, staff scheduling, intramural captain’s meetings, special events, and trainings.
4. Assist with the development and implementation of the Special Olympics Unified Sports program. Serve as the on-sight administrator for the Unified Sports program and showcase events.
5. Recruit, hire, train, evaluate, and develop student staff that includes Intramural Supervisors, Intramural Scorekeepers, and Officials.
6. Utilize computer-based scheduling software and web-based programs to coordinate activities and communicate with staff (i.e Microsoft Teams and IMLeagues).
7. Work cooperatively with other Campus Recreation staff members to represent the Campus Recreation Department at large University wide events.(i.e. Open House, Great DaneTopia, Accepted Students Day, Family Weekend).
8. Maintain an active presence in the Intramural Sports Programs and events.
9. Provide professional development opportunities to the Intramural Sports staff through trainings, meetings, interviews and other modules.
10. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s degree (preferably in an appropriate area of specialization).
2. Must be a graduate who will be enrolled at the University at Albany for Fall 2023.
3. Current possession of (or ability to maintain) First- Aid and CPR certification.
4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, time management and strong interpersonal skills.
5. Ability to work extended hours (nights and weekends) as needed. Weekly office hours and some program coverage may be required.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Supervisor experience with students, staff, and/ or participants
2. Proven ability to recruit, develop, lead, supervise and motivate student staff members.
3. Experience officiating and a working knowledge of NIRSA rules.
