Fitness Coordinator Position Summary: The Fitness Coordinator of Group Fitness reports to the Assistant Director of Fitness and Aquatics and assists in the oversite, assessment and coordination of an innovative and growing collegiate fitness program that includes personal training, small group training, 26,000-square-feet of fitness center spaces, three group fitness studios, student staff supervision and special events. The Fitness Coordinator of Group Fitness will oversee Group Fitness, Custom Special Events, and Small Group Training programs and the management of fitness studios. Duties include:
Provide leadership and direct the group fitness program, custom special events, and small group training to the UNCW Campus Community. Apply excellent customer service and industry best practices to manage day-to-day operations that include scheduling classes and instructors, managing fitness studios, and equipment inventory control and maintenance to create a world class experience for the UNCW campus community.
Lead and instruct skills and techniques necessary for group fitness classes. Specific class formats include strength-training, aquatic fitness, mind-body, cardiovascular training, and dance.
Responsible for supervision (recruiting, hiring, mentoring, performance evaluations) of student Group Fitness Instructors, Program Assistants, and Small Group Trainers.
Facilitate training and risk management assessments, mentorship, and continuing education opportunities for all staff.
Instruct a nationally accredited Group Fitness Instructor Certification Course for staff recruitment each semester.
Develop, implement, and lead training on standard operating procedures/ guidelines, policy education and enforcement, and departmental emergency action plan for assigned staff members.
Resolve conflicts and grievances within areas of responsibility. Develop and execute an on-going customer service training program to ensure goals, objectives and outcomes are met.
Manage the communication plan on programming schedules internally and externally to the UNCW Campus community and assist with the development and execution of marketing strategies for fitness programs, services, and special events.
Create experiential fitness related opportunities for custom special events for the UNCW Campus community.
Plan and assess short and long-term business objectives and goals for Group Fitness program and Small Group Training program to determine satisfaction levels, areas of improvement and potential sectors to target among staff and participants.
Responsibility for managing time and monthly payroll for respective student staff.
Provide feedback for managing a sustainable fee structure that includes personnel costs, course registration fees, fitness equipment replacement plan, etc.
Assist with the development and administration of the fitness program budget.
Expectations include creating and maintaining practices that are welcoming, innovating, and sustainable to the UNCW Campus Community and maintain a consistently friendly, clean, and safe environment for staff and patrons.
Provide consultation and expert advice on best practices, industry trends and emerging issues.
Participate in assessment planning and goal setting for the Fitness and Aquatics Team. Collect and analyze statistics related to assigned areas.
Assist in the development and programming of well-being initiatives and programs.

Facilities Coordinator Position Summary: The Facilities Coordinator reports to the Assistant Director of Facility Operations and Student Development and assists in the oversite, assessment, and coordination of the informal recreation experience taking place in the 165,000-square-foot Pat Lenoard Student Recreation Center. This position will be responsible for ensuring the student staff is supported while they maintain operational processes; providing customer service and maintaining a welcoming environment for patrons; and enforcing departmental guidelines.
Assist in the day-to-day operations of the Leonard Student Recreation Center including patron access; equipment inventory and check-out; facility set-up, address maintenance needs, and patron guideline enforcement.
Oversee the recruitment, hiring, supervision, and mentorship and assists in the evaluation of 20+ Informal Recreation Attendants to ensure informal recreation procedures are followed. Manages staff schedules.
Create, encourage, and support student development opportunities for student team members.
Assess, monitor, and train students on First Aid/CPR/AED and PDT as needed. Oversee risk management certification logs, and run EAP Red Shirt Drills with staff
Interact with facility users to enhance quality customer service and enforce policies and procedures relating to equipment and facility use.
Manage activities on Campus Recreation Center daily schedule. Ensure that facility spaces are properly set up for academic classes and programs by communicating and delegating related tasks. Provide onsite supervision for special events as needed.
Actively identify operational needs and create work orders through Physical Plant and oversee work completion.
Develop the preventative maintenance schedule for operational equipment and coordinate completion with appropriate internal or external vendors.
Responsible for purchasing housekeeping and operational supplies and coordinating distribution to proper locations throughout the building. Ensure proper daily cleaning of activity spaces and equipment is completed and provide direction to housekeeping staff as needed.
Coordinate semesterly shutdown cleaning schedules & communicate with key stakeholders.
Approve student payroll.
Assist in managing facility operations budgets and prepare daily deposits as needed.
