The Fitness Services Coordinator provides professional management and supervision for the daily operations of University Recreation Fitness Services. Assists in the management and execution of the personal training program, fitness consultations and counseling, fitness testing and non-credit educational courses focused on health, holistic wellness, safety education, and leadership development at the Student Recreation Center and Student Activity Center at Presidential Village.
Reports to and works closely with the Assistant Director for Fitness Services on strategic planning to ensure that programmatic, financial, and experiential goals are met. Recruits, hires, trains, schedules, and supervises 25-30 student and non-student staff. Performs employee skills assessments and performance evaluations. Develops and executes revenue producing services. Assists with departmental safety trainings. Performs high level of risk assessment and manages the needs of the personal training studio and fitness equipment. Manages administrative tasks (payroll, budgeting, and accounting) and has personal accountability for financial reporting and responsibility for establishing, enforcing, and following internal processes and controls as outlined in University policies and procedures. Serves as a fitness ambassador for the department providing fitness education, knowledge, and public relations to a variety of campus and community populations.

Supports department and University goals of diversity, equity, inclusion and outreach in student employment opportunities, patron relations, program offerings, and special events, and works to maximize student and patron experiences by providing quality programs, facilities, and customer experiences to the University community. Assists in providing opportunities that have a positive impact on the physical, social, and emotional wellbeing of University students through collaboration and partnerships with other divisional and campus units. Completes required training that is related to laws and regulations, that creates a more hospitable and respectful workplace; and safer work environment.
Skills and Knowledge: Strong customer service, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to prioritize multiple work responsibilities in time-sensitive situations, work with limited supervision, supervise staff, and disseminate new clients based on risk stratification. Ability to format and lead personal training prep course for UA community using NCCA approved certification material, maintain client retention, train at least two clients per week, maintain presence in fitness spaces. Knowledge of fitness programs, best practices and industry standards. Knowledge of personal computers and standard software applications (i.e. word processing, spreadsheets, database management, etc.).

Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm; some evenings, weekends, & holidays required

Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of experience; OR Master’s degree and one (1) year of experience. Student or Graduate Assistant, Intern, or student-oriented experience will be considered. To be considered student experience, it must be detailed in the employment section on the application.
Must have a valid, nationally recognized personal training certification, from a National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) accredited certifying organization or be able to obtain certification within three (3) months of hire date. CPR/First Aid certification or the ability to obtain within six (6) weeks of hire date. CPR & First Aid Instructor certification required, or ability to attain within six (6) months of hire date. Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in Health Promotion, Exercise Physiology or other health related field.
