The J. Wayne Reitz Union at the University of Florida is seeking a highly-motivated, innovative professional to join our team as the Training & Development Specialist. Working alongside the Assistant Director of Training & Development, the Specialist will play a large role in the creation, development and facilitation of a comprehensive training & development program for the 250+ full-time staff and student employees who work in the Reitz Union.
Position Responsibilities:
Develop and implement the student employee training and development program
In collaboration with the Assistant Director for Training & Development (T&D), unit managers and staff, assess student employee training needs
Develop and implement a student employee training and development program, including learning outcomes, recruitment, onboarding, professional development programs, topical training sessions, social events, and recognition activities; develop goals for the program in collaboration with the Assistant Director for T&D, unit managers and staff; ensure integration of appropriate learning outcomes into the work experience
Plan, coordinate, and/or conduct specific training activities (including required trainings); disseminate information, coordinate registration, and document and maintain records of student attendance and successful completion
Ensure accurate position descriptions for all positions
Develop and implement a department-wide structure that provides opportunities for professional development and continuing education opportunities.
Create and maintain up-to-date training resources for the department, including a training/policy manual
Develop forms and procedures and ensure timely performance evaluation for all employees
Serve as liaison to the Division of Student Life for student employee programs to ensure divisional goals and competencies are shared and met.
Oversee the Reitz Union/Newell Hall Student Council; recruit new members, schedule Council meetings, develop learning outcomes and objectives for Council members and all other student employees in coordination with the departmental mission and vision
Order, inventory, maintain and distribute all student employee uniform items including polo shirts, pullovers and nametag supplies
Develop and implement the full-time staff training and development program
In collaboration with the Assistant Director for T&D, assist with developing and implementing a comprehensive staff development program for department employees; plan special staff activities, including but not limited to employee onboarding and orientation, topical training, team building, and staff recognition and appreciation events
Work with department managers and staff to implement and evaluate training programs and activities in specific units as needed
Develop training workshops and resources, for small groups or individuals, for the departments, such as continuing education classes, English as a second language classes, computer literacy programs, and writing skills to enhance employment
Create assessments and evaluations for trainings and workshops that address staff learning and gathers, researches, and analyzes best practice programs
Ensure all employees are in compliance with university mandated trainings for all employees (e.g. student, OPS, part-time, and full time)
Assist with departmental hiring processes. Responsibilities may include; serving on search committees, developing standard operating procedures for future searches, coordinate and communicate onboarding tasks and responsibilities for new hires
Order, inventory, maintain and distribute all full-time employee uniform items including polo shirts and pullovers
Coordinate and manage administrative and designated human resource management functions for the department as directed
Coordinate personnel functions for the department as directed; provide training for managers and supervisors as directed; consult with, and assist JWRU managers in complying with policies and guidelines of the UF Division of Human Resource Services (HRS) in all personnel actions and processes
Assist with training and consultation with supervisors in the annual employee performance evaluation process as directed
Responsible for developing recognition programs and coordination of staff, student, and student organization awards and award ceremonies, in collaboration with other staff
Assist in developing, conducting, and analyzing research and assessment data for various aspects of JWRU operations, including but not limited to effectiveness of programs and services, customer satisfaction, and work place climate, as a means of determining training needs
In collaboration with the Assistant Director for T&D, develop and maintain the annual T&D budget
In collaboration with the Assistant Director for T&D, assist with the creation, development and management of a comprehensive Reitz Union Market program
Develop reports, handle special projects, tasks, and other duties as assigned
Contributes to the division and university through active participation on committees and division-wide initiatives (examples include: emergency dean on call, event support team, conduct committee, student welcome events, etc.)
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and four years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with staff development initiatives
Knowledge of student development theory
Understanding of developing learning outcomes and experiential learning processes
Practice in developing and conducting training activities for students
Proficiency with computers and basic software applications
Planning and organizational skills
Communication skills (verbal and written)
Interpersonal skills
Ability to handle multiple projects or tasks simultaneously
Work as part of a team in a multi-cultural environment
