Under specific/routine supervision, the Assistant Athletic Trainer for Club sports will assist the Head Athletic Trainer with overall care of men's and women's club sport programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Provide coverage at assigned games and practice sessions.
Serve as primary ATC for men's and women's rugby, men's and women's club lacrosse, men's club basketball, women's ACHA hockey and field hockey.
Provide coverage at specified times in the Kiernan Recreation Center and the office of Sports Medicine
Provide quality care for athletic injuries including evaluation, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries and related illness;
Document injuries;
Responsible for completion of clinic and insurance paper, coordinate arrangement of all referrals and treatments.
Process insurance claims;
Maintain confidentiality of information (including but not limited to: student and employee personal information, student grades, etc.), both during and after their employment with the University. Any question regarding the confidentiality of material, should be referred to the supervisor. Any violation shall subject the employee to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
Working in conjunction with the NU Sports Medicine program, the trainer will be responsible for developing and formalizing a comprehensive concussion management program for the club sport participants utilizing IMPACT. The program developed will focus on prevention, education, management and proper return to play (RTP) protocol.
When scheduled/referred in the Kiernan Recreation Center, athletic trainer services will be available for all students to include all intercollegiate and club sport participants, members of cheerleading team, intramural participants and the entire student body.
Trainer is responsible for the operation of treatment areas at practice, game and office sites. Trainer must ensure appropriate supplies are available in treatment areas as well as keeping treatment areas clean and organized.
Perform other duties as assigned.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

60% Provides coverage for the club sports program at assigned games and practice sessions; oversees work-study students and/or student intern athletics trainer(s); provides quality care for athletic injuries including evaluation, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries and related illnesses. Implementation of comprehensive concussion management program.
10% Ensure club sport coaches and designated team members are certified in CPR/AED and first aid.
10% Provides coverage in Student Health Services for general student population
10% Communicates with Head Coaches, Director of Health Services, and Director of Recreation & Club Sports of assigned programs in regards to injuries, rehabilitation and return to play protocol.
10% Documents injuries; processes insurance claims; works with NU Drug and Alcohol Education and testing programs; performs other administrative duties.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1) Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays when necessary.
2) Strong organizational, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
3) Ability to perform athletic training skills for men's and women's intercollegiate athletic program.
4) Knowledge of techniques for caring for injuries, rehabilitation, and prevention.
5) Ability to receive telephone calls, respond to inquiries and communicate with others by telephone.
6) Ability to travel.
7) Ability to drive a personal or university vehicle for the purpose of university business.
ERGONOMIC REQUIREMENTS:
The functions of the position usually performed standing, but may require some amount of time sitting. Some amount of stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, lifting, walking, carrying and other movements may be required. This position requires some traveling. Tasks involving working on a computer keyboard, computer software applications, calculator, wrapping, taping, labeling, and cutting and involve extensive wrist and hand movement. This position requires some traveling. All individuals are required to be able to perform these movements without significant risk of injury to themselves or others.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
Bachelor degree in athletic training or related field required. Master's degree preferred.
NATA certification required.
NYS Certification or ability to gain certification within the first year of employment.
American Red Cross CPR/FA instructor preferred.
Valid driver's license required. License must meet insurance company rules and regulations for driving underwriting criteria.
