JOB SUMMARY:
The primary purpose of this position is to develop and implement a comprehensive fitness and wellness program based on current research and fitness industry trends for students of Niagara University as well as assist the Director of Campus Recreation in the administration and oversight of the Kiernan Recreation Center. This position is responsible for organizing, planning, advertising and implementation of the university's personal trainer program, conducting fitness assessments to include health and fitness counseling and the development of personal exercise programs, fitness equipment maintenance, and conducting special wellness programs that will meet the fitness/wellness demands of the university community. This position is completely responsible for the implementation, organization, administration and supervision of Niagara University's summer youth camp and youth programs. Includes hiring and if required termination of employees under direction and approval of KC Director.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Develop, organize, promote, administer and supervise all programs related to personal training services. Including but not limited to, basic nutrition consultation, instruct wellness/aerobic classes, participation in community health/fitness outreach programs.
Responsible for oversight of the group exercise program including hiring and assessment of instructors, scheduling and data tracking.
Recruit individuals to participate in personal trainer program and health/wellness programs.
Ensure the overall health and safety of patrons using the Kiernan Recreation Center facilities.
Will be required to obtain instructor's certification in CPR and Lifeguarding. Will be required to keep updated log of employee CPR and Lifeguarding Certifications and update certifications before expiration dates.
Gather information, formulate and type all reports, memos, policies and procedures, forms, written responses, etc.
Basic understanding of maintenance/cleaning of fitness equipment
Prepare and present OSHA training for all employees of the Kiernan center
Develop and monitor personal trainer data base program.
Assist in general supervision and security of the Kiernan Recreation center.
Execute fiscal responsibilities such as: collection of membership fees, rental fees and program fees.
Must have knowledge of Niagara University's Emergency and Disaster Plan and if needed, possess abilities to be a lead person in opening the Kiernan Recreation Center as an emergency shelter in the event of a campus/local emergency. In the event of a university emergency, could be considered "essential personnel" and will need to report to the university to assist in university operations.
Work with club sport teams to develop or support fitness programs and progression testing.
Schedule and coordinate fitness certifications and workshops.
Set learning outcomes and conduct comprehensive program assessments in specific areas of responsibility to inform fitness and wellness program development and implementation.
Assist with development of all marketing and social media efforts for the Kiernan Recreation Center.
When appropriate, work with the office of Human Resources to develop health and wellness programs for the entire university community (employees and students).

Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
% of Time
50% Manage and supervise all aspects of university's personal trainer/fitness programs and provide supervision in fitness areas. Develop and conduct health/wellness workshops and programs.
30% Implementation, organization and administration of all aspects of the Niagara University Summer Youth Camp.
10% Provide facility supervision of the Kiernan Recreation Center to ensure the overall health and safety of all patrons.
5% Provide an effective risk management program including; procedures for emergency care in facilities and conducting facility safety audits and equipment maintenance.
5% Development of reports and record keeping.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Experience in the design of exercise and wellness programs.
Ability to provide effective supervisory and facility management skills.
Sufficient manual dexterity with proficiency to handle various office machines including but not limited to: computer keyboard, computer software applications, copy and fax machines.
Ability to provide excellent customer service to all patrons of the Kiernan Recreation Center. This includes but is not limited to receiving phone calls, responding to inquiries and communicating with external users.
Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
Ability to collect fees associated with usage of the Kiernan Recreation Center programs and facilities.
Certifications required: CPR, Certification in personal training and/or experience in related field.
Ability to take and pass a Red Cross Instructor Certification Course in CPR/AED and Lifeguard Training.
Ability to work evening, weekends, and holidays when necessary.
Knowledge of New York State Health Department rules and regulations regarding the operations of a youth summer camp.
ERGONOMIC REQUIREMENTS:
The functions of the position usually performed standing, but may require some amount of time sitting, stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, lifting, walking, carrying and other movements may be required. Tasks will involve instruction in some fitness activities involving running, walking and lifting. Tasks involving working on a computer, computer keyboard, typewriter, calculator, cutting, labeling, and taping involve extensive wrist and hand movement. All individuals are required to be able to perform these movements without significant risk of injury to themselves or others, or to otherwise demonstrate or explain how they can perform the essential functions listed above.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
Bachelor's degree required or at least 21 years of age with at least 24 weeks of previous administrative or supervisory experience in recreation and camping or equivalent acceptable to the State Commissioner of Health.
Certification in Personal Training or Strength and Conditioning.
Position will be required to submit a form entitled "Prospective Children's Camp Director Certified Statement Relative to the conviction of a Crime of the Existence of a Pending Criminal Action" to the Department of Social Services State Central Register of Abuse and Maltreatment. The local permit-issuing official will determine that the camp director has no criminal conviction record for which: employment as a camp director would involve an unreasonable risk to the property or the safety or welfare of camp participants or the general public.
Valid driver's license required. License must meet insurance company rules and regulations for driving underwriting criteria.
Must take and pass Red Cross Lifeguarding and CPR instructional classes.
