UREC Assistant Director for Fitness & Nutrition Responsibilities:
Staff Supervision: Provide leadership and mentoring to Fitness, Group Exercise, Nutrition, Personal Training, and Strength/Conditioning staff including two full-time coordinators, two graduate assistants and over 150 student employees. Responsible for the effective recruitment, selection, training, supervision and evaluation of fitness staff in compliance with all applicable university guidelines. Participate in monthly HR meetings, approve payroll and leave, and manage student employee budgets.
Fitness Programming: Provide leadership to develop, plan and implement comprehensive fitness programs currently including: Group Exercise, Personal Training, Small Group Training and Strength/Conditioning programs consistent with University Recreation philosophy to meet the needs of the JMU community. Establish learning outcomes for participants and employees, and conduct at least one learning assessment for each program area annually. Track participation data and conducts needs assessments on a regular basis to inform changes.
Nutrition Programming: Provide leadership to develop, plan and implement nutrition programming including cooking/food preparation programs, nutritional guidance and healthy eating. Collaborate with UHC Dietician on programs and services to create synergy between our clinical and educational programming. Establish learning outcomes for participants and employees, and conduct at least one learning assessment for each program area annually. Track participation data and conducts needs assessments on a regular basis to inform changes.
Facilities/Risk Management: Ensures a safe, attractive and clean environment in all fitness and nutrition facility spaces including: fitness, strength and conditioning areas, six group exercise studios, mezzanine fitness areas, small group training, personal training, demonstration kitchen, and physical assessment lab. Prepares work orders for maintenance and repairs, and develops proposals for new equipment/space needs. Collaborates with the Associate Director of Facilities to establish risk management protocols for all programs and facilities. Manage program risk documents including assumption of risk and medical information consistent with JMU policies and procedures.
Administration and Collaboration: Serve as a member of the professional staff program/facility supervision team. Supervise technology as it relates to the program areas including administration of program registration software (on-line and in person). Work with the Assistant Director for Communications and Engagement and Assistant Director for Member Services to ensure the timely release of information to the JMU community. Prepare annual budget proposals and manage fiscal resources, recommend and/or requisition purchases for equipment services and supplies. Collaborates with colleagues in UREC, Student Affairs, and other divisions as appropriate, and is an active member on committees, commissions and task forces as assigned. Participates in staff meetings and departmental events to support teammates.
Salary: Range of $56,000 - $60,000 with full Commonwealth of Virginia faculty benefit package: https://www.jmu.edu/humanresources/benefits/ap-faculty/index.shtml.
